There is nothing wrong with either one of the trucks mentioned by the OP, and for that matter the Dodge is ok but suffers from a junk tranny ratio wise IMO (I had an 08 Megacab hemi)There is no question though that the Ford will school both of the others in the hills with a load. (kinda like the duramax does in the oil burners)

From Pickup truck.com hd shootout (16 Percent Grade)
The 6.2-liter V-8 ran up the hill a full 5 seconds and almost 5 mph faster than its next closest competitor, the Silverado. Its rpm seemed to pick up faster than the Hemi’s or the Vortec’s, and it was so fast that it shifted into second gear during one run, though it lost about 1,000 rpm and immediately downshifted. During the other sprints, the F-250 remained exclusively in first gear to top of the hill approaching near redline. The whole run the F-250 howled like a muscle car, not a three-quarter-ton truck with a combined weight of more than 17,000 pounds.

And one more thing why is all the oil burner guys have to make every request for info all about diesels. There are many who don't want, don't need nor care about oil burners or their maint costs. Pulling 10k with a 6.2 Ford is a walk in the park and there are a large number of people who have switched from diesel to this platform. I am not trying to get an argument going here but come on everyone knows your precious diesels make more power so how about stopping trying to push them down everyones throat.

I have a 2012 F250 with the 6.2lt gasser and I can't say enough about it.
It is a 4x4 CC. 3.73 Rear gear. Unloaded it will get 18-19mpg as long as you keep your foot out of it and with my 34ft Coachman on the back just did 400 miles and got 10mpg. With 5 people in the truck and a bed full.
Never a lack of power and it rides nice too.

All makes will eventually have the urea (DEF) to meet emissions standards. Some commercial Cummins already have it. Ford was just ahead of the curve with it's new diesel.

I have the same configuration and only manage 12.3 mpg babying it. I haven't towed with it yet but will be very happy if I can get 9 mpg out of it. Love the truck, but the mpg is what it is.

Chevy's now rule on cost to operate and they have a better warranty and now many include maintenance.

Chevys also get much better mileage than fords for the same size engine. My expedition on a good day can avg 12.3mpg (5.4 titan) and the silverado (5.3) does 16. 30% better is nothing to sneeze at.

And our '13 silverado has been the best new vehicle I've ever bought - way better than the lemon 89 s10 gm bought back off of me (yes, it was that bad).

I can't say if the 6 or 6.2 is better. The chevy 53 and ford 54 are very similar in power, considering my ford as 230k on it vs the chevy's 4k I think that speaks well for the ford (other than the windshield leak taking out the computer (common issue), plugs blowing out of the head (common issue), coil on plug issues (common...), rad support, rear suspension all rotted out. Now the water pump is original as is the starter and alternator and the trans lasted 225k.

I've been a ford person for most of my life - the taurus is gone, the windstar is gone and the expy should go on monday.
You're talking apples and oranges when comparing the Ford 5.4L to the newer 6.2L. Can't compare the two!

I've got the same Camper (27RKSS) and pull it with a F150 EcoBoost no problem. If "I" were going to trade up to a new TV it would be a a no brainer, F250 Diesel all day. I've owned Ford, Chevy and Dodge trucks, and the Ford gets my vote today.

I went to the chevy lot and got the commercial 2500 HD 6.o 3.73.....pulling a 5er that grosses out between 8k and 8.5k.....very satisfied.....get the 8 ft bed crew cab. Trailer empty is about 6600 like yours....as long as trailer is under 10k you will be fine with 3.73....and get better mileage.....if you drive 56-58mph...engine purrs along at 1500 rpm till it hits a hill.....then 2000.....steep hill 2600....I feel the long wheel base makes for better towing.....keep combined wt around 15500 ......or less.

I use that to my advantage. When someone pizzes me off in traffic, I make sure to get along side of him and blow that stinky exhaust right in his window!

Ford all the way!!! Best truck I've had and top quality. PS 6.7 if you can, you'll be very happy on the hills passing the Chevy's.

You think? (Sarcasm). A diesel doesn't fit all lifestyles. I went from a Ford 7.3L diesel to a Ford 6.2L gas. I only pull about once a month and the initial investment in the diesel wasn't worth it to me. No regrets here.

The op asked about a gasser. We all know a diesel will beat a gasser for towing. I know some diesel guys don't want to hear this but diesels are not the right choice for every towing application. Now lets give him what he asked for, opinions on chevy vs ford gassers.

I just purchased a 2012 F250 6,2 gasser a month ago. I drove both chevy and ford before making my decision. I felt both were nice trucks. I bought the ford because the price was better and it came standard with tow mirrors. I could not find a chevy with the tow mirrors on a lot.

Either truck will be fine. Go with the one that makes you the happiest and don't look back.

I had ford, chevy and dodge trucks. The chevys have always lasted the longest with the the fewest problems for me. My 2009 chevy 2500hd with tow mirrors tows 8000 lbs great.

One of my main concerns non trailing fuel mileage iv alway heard ford are horrible and my Chevys have always been great so that one of my issues I can get a Crew cab F250 for the same price as the 2500 extended cab both 4x4 im going to go do some driving and checking today Ive also heard about the GM loyalty program not sure what thats all about so Price and MPG are going to get my attention and Im well aware that a diesels are monster for tow just not in the budget right now with starting to build a house. Thanks for the help here

Heavy Chevy all the way
I have 2012 D Max so I don't know a lot about gassers in a 2500, but take all 3 and test drive, im sure you will be happy with the one you chose, except FORD, just kidding, love the rivalry between the big 3

Real world fuel mileage on a 2012 F250 CC 4x4 6.2L Gas;

9.5 MPG pulling 11,300 5th wheel at 65 MPH on flat ground
14 MPG hwy at 75 MPH with no headwind. Headwind makes about 1 MPG difference.

2013 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Pick Up Truck | Capabilities | Chevrolet GMC / Chevy 6.0: Horsepower@RPM - 360@5400 Torque@RPM - 380@4200 . . 2013 Ford Super Duty | View Full Engine Specifications | Ford.com Ford 6.2 Horsepower@RPM - 385 @ 5500 (Under 10k GVW) / 316 @ 4179 (Over10K GVW) Torque@RPM - 405 @ 4500 (Under 10k GVW) / 397 @ 4179(Over10K GVW) From the hp/tq, Fuel tank numbers it seems close enough to not make a big difference. The numbers start changing at GAWR both front and rear but for bumper pulls they are GM is 13k ford 12.5K so the difference would be if the OP wants a 5th almost 2k greater with the ford IMHO with the numbers so close it would come down to ride/handling/interior of the configuration wanted -

I think if it's your daily drive this has to be a major Plus... and should be a big factor in your buying decision.

Your towing number is around average but that unloaded number IMHO is really sad. I get that number with my D-Max in the city
