Your towing number is around average but that unloaded number IMHO is really sad. I get that number with my D-Max in the city
Yep, that's the down side of a 3/4 ton gas. But on the flip side is the price at the pump.

Thanks for the help here
IMO...if possible, consider the gasser with the most HP & Torque to get things moving a little easier.

The 4.10 axle on the Chevy will be better than the 3.73 gears on the Ford for towing. Forget about the poster who says they get 18-19 MPG with their F250. Ain't happening unless you are going downhill the entire tank of gas. Either truck will EASILY get the job done for your trailer. Pick the one you like the best.

The current gas to diesel price where I live is only a few bucks difference per tank, add in that I'll get around a 140 to 150 miles further per tank more than makes up for it.

GM's are great, much better than Ford. I had a F350 that was a piece of crepe.

Remember the OP ask about gassers, not diesels, so no more diesel talk PLEASE, we all know diesels have torque, pull better and get 40 mpg pulling 20,000 trailers 80 mph, stink and are noisy, but that was not the original question.

But again, to me its a lifestle choice as I've stated in a previous post. There are many discussions on this site gas vs. diesel and it doesn't need to be rehashed. I went from a diesel to a gas so I know the benefits of both. The mileage I drive both empty and towing pushed me to buy gas. No regrets here.

I noticed the same out of mine. Took my foot out of the gas and started running between 60-65 on the interstate and the mileage is up to right around 17. Stay off the interstate and run 50-55 and it will get 20mpg. I've been keeping a real good record of the mileage. Truck has 7600 miles, last fill up was last Wednesday, put 32 gal in it. Had 539.4 miles on the trip odometer. Do the math. That was with mixed driving in Southern Indiana.

I'm definitely not trying to rehash the argument, I am just shocked with the gas mileage.

I will say very little as I am one of those stinky, noisy diesel guys lol (2013 Duramax and it has no smell or smoke, and very little diesel rattle). I have had a Dodge with a cummins, great motor but the cab and interior fell apart around it, and Ford, I won't go there. I will say if I didnt drive so much I would have a gasser, but at roughly 10k miles a month it is worth it for me.

Anyway, what I wanted to say is that if you go to buy GM check and see if they still have the business deal going. When I bought mine a couple months ago if you were part of a business you got a $500 Lowes card for free,, so momma got a new dishwasher,, it was my excuse for the truck so I could get her dishwasher home

I agree that you should test drive both vehicles and select the one that impresses you most considering performance & cost.

As you would expect, most replies to your question will be biased. I've never owned a Dodge truck (Had a van once), but have owned both Ford and Chevy. I understand the dealers are really pushing the Chevies, thus you may find a better bargain there.

When I bought our present truck, I went to several Ford dealers trying to find a 6.2 gasser, but the only ones available were commercial bodies. The 6.2 is quite a step up from the 5.4 (found a few of those, but based on research, the 5.4 wouldn't handle my needs). After more research, I settled on the 6.7 Turbo Diesel which, to me, outperformed the Chevy 2500 in terms of hp and torque. The new 6.7 had several advantages including not having to idle to cool the turbos.

And quite honestly, I admired Ford's response to the gov't bailout. As an ole military guy, leadership and integrity are pretty high up in my list.

Regardless; try 'em all, then buy the one that makes sense to you, not us...

I couldnt agree more if our tax dollars wouldn't have been used to bail out Dodge and Chevy they may not be here today. Went with the Ford because they have always taken care of themselves.

It had NOTHING TO DO with integrity, just the economic situation. Research it a little bit and you'll know, and not just have blind assumptions.

That was more of a political move on the part of the Pres. than anything else. I think if you dig deep enough, you'll find Ford got a few benefits from it also.
Ford Looks Hypocritical In New Anti-Bailout Commercial - Forbes
In fact, Ford chief executive Alan Mulally sat shoulder to shoulder with GM and Chrysler when they asked Congress for government help so that a collapse of the companies and their suppliers wouldn’t take down the entire industry. Now the gloves are off.

But wait a minute. OK, Ford didn’t file bankruptcy or get bailed out by Uncle Sam, but didn’t it receive $5.9 billion in low-cost government loans in 2009 to overhaul its factories and bring out more fuel-efficient technology? What would have happened to Ford if Congress hadn’t authorized taxpayer money to fund that $25 billion Energy Department program during a moment of crisis for the industry?

Sorry to get everyones feathers ruffled. These are just preferences on my part. Don't think gettin into all this will help the OP with his decision. Besides we all know we are going to go with what best suits use at the time.

Who brought it up?

But agree, got nothing to do with OP's original post.

You crack me up OC. I guess I have owned a few GMs but never anything recent and always had to pay cash. Couldn't afford to make payments and keep them running both.
