I agree with Sirsea. Pulling a travel trailer with a gas vehicle will almost certainly shorten the life expectancy of said vehicle. Although a diesel is a much more expensive alternative, In the long run you will be much happier with the diesel. My experience pulling w/Chevrolets over the years has not been a good one. LOTS of driveshaft and drivetrain issues. Once I could afford a new vehicle w/ warranty, It was repaired by dealer but not without inconvenience. Nothing worse than being out of town and your TV is in the shop for major repairs, Ford is the number one selling truck for over 22 years. There is something to be said about that.

Purchased our 2012 with 50,000 miles on it; Ford certified bumper to bumper to 125,000 and we purchased their tire plan which covers tires and rims on the truck and anything we tow through 100,000 (excluding normal wear, of course).

I own 2- #1 2009 F150 super crew. 5.4 triton. Bought new. Has aftermarket Crane RV camshaft and Mallory Computer chip.Hauls 3 dogs and a Bayliner 225. 17 mpg loaded. I installed the cam myself and the warranty is still good for 4 1/2 more years. #2 2009 F350 Dually, 7.2 diesel. Bought at auction. High voltage wiring burned up under the cab and on the firewall. Paid 16,000. Vehicle had 26,000 miles and was still under warranty. Ford had the vehicle for 14 weeks. When I took delivery, It could not be told from new. Has been a gem ever since. Rumor has it that when purchased new, The owner had put enormous dollars worth of aftermarket stuff under the hood and it is believed that these items are the reason for the fire. I have always wanted a ford dually and while in the market for a Harley Davidson Road King I got a phone call from my brother in law in south Florida offering up this deal on the Dually. I made the phone call to the auction house and the vehicle was mine. Lots of work to get it home but worth the trouble and time. I rented a truck and trailer in Chicago and drove down to Florida to haul it back. The rental broke down going / coming back / and almost everywhere in-between. The rental ended up costing 2 tanks of fuel. Not a bad deal. The rest is history. Would I ever buy a vehicle at auction /out of state again??? NO.

A 5.4 is a SOHC design, meaning you should have changed 2 cams- no way you changed just one. And Ford has never offered a 7.2 diesel that I am aware of. An 09 should have a 6.4. Not trying to be confrontational; maybe some clarification, though????

I just bought a 2013 GMC 2500HD SLT Crew Cab (w/ the 3.73), to replace my 2004 F150 Lariat Super Crew. After a 300 mile round trip towing my 23SS, I'm very very happy with it.
I went GMC for 3 reasons:
My F150 at 101K miles was costing too much to keep on the road, and when I went to look at F250's, I just didn't like the look of the truck.
My step-dad is in Chevy 2500, and I didn't want to have the same name plate on the grill.
How's that for helpful advice?

An American truck is still a better alternative than the rest of them for our large 5ers and TT's and what ever the OP chooses it will be a fine truck.

My 2007 Chevy 2500hd duramax is AWESOME. Smooth, quiet and powerful. My 2001 F350 was nuting but trouble.
I will not go beyond that. Personal experience, freely shared, no speculation or politics.

We have 2 in the family, one with ~310K, the other with ~360K, and neither have had anything done to them other than bolt on repairs, standard maintenance, and a clutch each. Never met anyone with a 7.3 that has been disappointed with it. A few complaints about mileage of the 99-03 models, but that's because they expected to get as good as the 97 back models and didn't. The older autos in pretty much all diesels were prone to issues in the Ford's and Dodges. That seems to be a non-issue on the newer stuff.
