Front light at the hitch...

I have a new 2011 Shamrock 19 - an outside front light is installed to help hitching at night - very useful.

Now, that light is neither waterproof or dust proof - probably won't last very long. The clear lens barely holds in place too.

Has anyone come up with a way to 'ruggedize' it ? Maybe a replacement light ? I have put liberal amounts of dielectric grease on the connectors - that will help for sure,

Replace with a marine light. You can find all kinds of them on boating sites and many are even LED which use a lot less power.

Yes I did think of that - but the ones I have found are all over $100... pretty steep.

I may drop in at my local auto wreck to see if I could salvage a pickup lamp, like the ones you see at the back of the cab to light up the box. That could work.

Why FR would install such a crappy light in that location is beyond me. As a porch light it works, but not in front

I think you need to search some more, maybe Amazon. I saw all kinds of marine grade light fixtures that were waterproof for under $50.

I installed LED car fog lights on all corners of the camper. less than $20 per pair at autozone. I'm sure you have an quivalent way up north. It wouldn't take much to make a mount that would fit at your existing light location.
