Front sharp radius caps on FR 5th wheels

With are soon to be new FR Heritage Glen 337BAR,on the front end of the trailer we noticed the new design called a "sharp radius cap front end".My question is has anyone used a fixed hitch without a slider with it and how is the clearence to the rear glass on the truck.We have a 6ft bed.

I have always stated that there are two type of people who pull with a short bed truck and pull a 5er! Those that have hit the cab and those that will!


I have a 2008 Ram Mega Cab with the 6.5' box using a manual sliding hitch, this has been used in two different short bed trucks. I have pulled three different 5er's, all with extended kin pin boxes and two of them have had the rounded or 88 DEG's corners on them. If I did not manually extended the slider hitch when turning really sharp to get into a narrow camp ground site or into my driveway I will hit the cab of the truck with the trailer. In normal day to day driving on highways and city streets I do not need to extend the hitch and I can pull the 5er with no issues. It is only in real tight turning situations that the hitch needs to be extended.

My first trailer was a 2006 Ameri-Camp with an extended pin box this had a radius front end but not enough clearance with the cab. My next trailer was a 2010 318SAB Cougar with the 88 DEG corners, this two would hit the corner of the cab in a really tight turn. Our current trailer a 2016 34RL Cedar Creek will hit also in a very sharp turn.

I've had my manual slider for 6 years and have "yet" to engage it.
There will be a day.
Ps don't cheap out on the hitch, buy the good one first.

I can make almost a 90 degree turn on mine without hitting. If you get into tight turns when backing you have to pay real close attention or you can push it to far. I have to cut it real hard to get into my driveway but the cab clearance is the easiest to watch as long as you remember to watch it.

Have drove a truck for 43 yrs. If you go past a 45 to 50 degree back up, you already lost it. Start over. Its all on how you set up to start.

I've been researching low profile boxes for my F-350. I pull a 31 foot Forest River Cardinal.

What box are you using and how much clearance do you have when you are turning on level ground?

I bought a deep, low profile Kobalt, used. I wasn't sure it would work so the $100.00 I spent on I could get it back. Best thing I did, no tools in 5er, under my seat. Clearance in a turn as sharp as my truck will turn is at least 6" I would have to jack knife backing in, the trailer twisting opposite of the truck to hit it. Never gonna happen.

I use a non-slider on a short bed but the reason I can is because of the pin box which is a Reese Revolution and it swivels so a slider is not really needed. The pin sticks is more forward compared to some of the others. If you have this pin box you may not need a slider.

Have the 6.5' bed and non-sliding hitch and have in some tight places without any issues. Also have an over the rail tool box that thought might have been a problem but so far so good.

Have an Andersen hitch in a GMC 2500 HD 6.5 ft bed. No problems turning and no slider needed.

I have a 2011 Dodge Ram 3500 Dually Mega Cab. I pull a 42' Dynamax Trilogy.
When I bought this unit, I had it priced with a Reese Airborne Side Winder pin box. I have tested the clear turning radius and am able to go past 90 degrees and still not hit the cab. Also, this type of pin box makes the trailer follow more closely to the truck turning radius. Meaning you don't have to leave a much room or swing out as far to make a turn.
I love it and will always have a Reese Airborne Side Winder with any future 5er I buy. Good luck and happy trails.

When I bought my Dodge witth a 6 1/2 foot bed my dealer installed a slider. He said I probably would never need it but better to be safe. I had never had one and forgot about it. My third trip I found out he was wrong!! I didn't take the back window but came very close! I now have a nice dent in the corner of my cab to reminddddd me I have a slider and SHOULD USE IT!

It is not possible to hit the cab with the Reese Revolution and my shorted F250.
