Frustrated WDH setup...

Good morning everyone! I spent a few hours last night trying to really dial in my Curt WDH and I'm close. The dealer left me with my Rockwood 8327SS nose down and Savana 2500 van sagging in the rear a good bit. After watching the Curt towing products video I went out to the school parking lot and duplicated exactly what the video said. I measured all four corners of the TV and leveled the TT tongue. I put the ball 2 1/2" above the ball receiver. I placed my spring bars level and lifted them in place. Once I took the tongue jack up I remeasured. So as it stands the TV is about 1 1/4" nose up and the TT is ever so slightly nose down...its almost level. Looking to bring the nose of the van down. We have a trip to Myrtle Beach the end of June and I really want to get it dialed in. Raise the ball higher? Any suggestions?

Oh, and the picture has the TT looking nose high, but that's an illusion.

It's a Draw-Tite sway bar, standard trunion to A frame setup.

Since the TV is slightly nose up & the TT is slightly nose down you should just need to go to the next link in the chain to add more tension to the trunion bars. This should bring the the tv back end up a little and level up the whole rig.

With (7) people in the Van and a (34+) trailer you might want to use more S/C than (1) friction bar. You seem to be good on your W/D but S/C is important also! Youroo!!

Today was my first time with this TT on the freeway and it truly tracked beautifully. It has significantly less sway and bump than my old Puma 30kfbds. I will probably run it as is for a bit before deciding on additional S/C.

Yes, that's what I had to do with WDH (Blueox Sway Pro) after loading with equipment. The dealer had it set up fine for the drive home but, after adding items to the front storage compartment I had to adjust by bringing the tension bars up. That evened everything out. I just made a one link adjustment for mine.

If you can't get the satisfaction from the WDH that you want, you might also look at the Roadmaster Active Suspension, for the back of the van. I used e250 Ford vans for work vehicles, and always found them lacking enough spring in the back.
I would think with the combination of the WDH setup, and the RAS, that you should be happy, happy, happy.

I've had the RAS on two vans, and two pickups, and can't say enough good things about it.

Yep. If he has to have his WD bars pointing up to level things off then he needs to angle his hitch head down a little so the WD bars are level when everything else is.

That's what I had to do to mine to get everything set up correctly.

A 1 1/4" off in front is quiet a bit. Can you turn the hitch head downward anymore? I like to have my bars level to the frame of my unit or slightly pointed down toward the camper.

I can angle it down, as I have it set in the middle of the top slot.

My Blue Ox Sway Pro does not have a head angle. I've seen mention of that before but was not sure what it was. My only adjustments are to raise the ball height or change the link that goes into the cam.

Hope you get it worked out.

Well, after enough reading on the different ways to set up a WDH (everyone has a different method) I am going to give it another shot this weekend before we head out for Memorial Day. Baron, I will get a shot and post it. I think I have the ball too high and not enough tilt. We'll see....

Youroo, I am going to add a friction bar this weekend also. You were right, as the winds were quite a bit more on the tow home and I mentally referred back to your wisdom I'll keep you posted...

Here's an update: Apparently the parking lot I originally used to take all of my measurements wasn't as level as it seemed

This past weekend we were on a beautiful new concrete pad where I was able to get a true read on hitch head and ball heights. Boy was I off! I ended up raising the ball TWO hole up and adding two washers for tilt. As you can see from my picture I am almost perfectly level on the TT and Van. I think I'll try the next link down the next time out, but I am super satisfied so far!

Lesson learned: Be sure you have truly level ground to work with or you'll spend hours chasing your tail!

Thanks everyone for all your help, it's what makes this place awesome!!
