Fuel Millage vs 2 different TT's

Naked my 2014 Cummins PU got 22 gals per mallon , I added a topper that was 10 inches taller than truck , miles dropped to 19 ! Height makes a diff !

UPDATE:

Ok it gets better... Loaded the new TT (Vengence 25v) up. 50 gal water. Food clothes chairs coffee maker etc etc etc.

Drove 40 miles to a local states park for the weekend. Got 10.9 mpg..

I musta just had a high head wind coming from the dealer.......

We have a 2015 GMC Denali HD with a 6.6 and tow a RW 8315bss which is about 34 ft. And get about 12 mpg at 70mph when I tow friends work trailer which is about same height but about 1\2 the weight and only 16 feet long we only get about 10 mpg at 70 mph. A engineer friend thinks as do I that tbe air flow around the tt has more tims to level out and smooth out before reaching the back of it but on the shorter trailer the air flow is still swirling around wben it gets to the back and then makes a vacuum behind and suckes at the rear so creating more drag. Long winded but only thing we could come up with.

The frontal area is key and affects the mileage. Other thing to consider is that your Diesel will get better mileage as it gets broke in. I've got a 2010 Ram 2500 6.7 diesel w/4x4 and after 22-25,000 miles I saw mileage improvement.

just wondering, maybe you should tow the new camper back to the pale you bought it, then compare the gas mileage
it would mimic the same exact trip, and give you the answer to whether it is the camper or not

Air drag on our trailers and 5ers comes as much from the square corners as anywhere, especially at the back. You can V the front and curve the front cap, lean it back and curve the top, etc... but it's only a small part of the equation... Truckers are adding panels to the backs of their trailers, and along the bottom in an effort to tame that airflow down some, and make less drag. If they can save 2 or 3 percent in fuel, it can add up to big bucks... like the winglets on jet liners.
