I use 9, the maximum setting, most of the time. I use the lever on the bottom of the remote control to be sure the Patriot applies the toad brakes every time we hook up, and I've never had the toad slide the tires. That tells me that it's not applying too much braking force. Normally, I want as much braking action as I can get. When I don't want the toad brakes to be applied, I just dial the remote back to zero.

I usually leave mine at the default, 5. However I find sometimes it comes on too early so will then dial it down to 3. Sometimes it will not come on soon enough so then dial it up to 7. Not sure why it seems to be different sometimes. I can feel the brakes in the toad being applied when the light on the remote comes on. Last week i needed to make a real quick stop and the Patriot sure helped in that situation, and it was at 5.
