Gas mileage
I have a 2017 Salem cruise lite. I tow it with a 2012 Toyota Tacoma V6 with a tow package. I get 8-9 mpg. Is there anything I can do to get better.

Because you have a trailer that weighs about the same as your truck. By having the trailer attached, you're asking the motor to work twice as hard as it would normally does to move just the truck. That "work" takes a higher volume of fuel to perform.
Unhitching the trailer reduces the weight by half; therefore, taking less fuel to move the truck. This, in turn, increases miles per gallon.

Awesome answer to the “why” response to your “unhitch the trailer” reply to the OP. I’m 100% positive i wouldn’t have been nearly as nice if i was in your shoes.

That was RUDE!
The OP came here looking for an answer to a valid concern and the only comment you can make is that your 100% positive that you wouldn't have been nearly as nice if I was in your shoes"!
Why not offer up a helpful answer. I'm sure that would be more appreciative.
And people wonder why some people never come back.

All due respect to the OP if he couldn’t see the comment “unhitch the trailer” was clearly a joke to his question that alone opens up the flood gates to all sorts of criticism. So i was replying to the person who had tremendous patience giving a wonderful explanation to his reply. Nothing i said was aimed at the OP. You read it wrong, Sorry.

No.
You are pulling a barn door through the air with a v-6.
Air resistance affects gas mileage more than weight does.
Even v-8 tow vehicles only average around 9-11 mpg.
If you want better mileage, get a diesel or get a low profile trailer, like a popup or A-frame.

With the pop up I had 2003 Coleman Carmel around 2500 lbs(I think). Pulling with a 09 Tacoma 4 door, 4x4 I got at best 14 mph to western Oklahoma then to Kansas last spring. However on i22 between bham and new Albany ms I got 12 mph. Bunch of hills in bama.

It'll help tow better but it WON'T help gas mileage.
I think your owners manual will tell you that you need a WDH to tow your trailer safely.
I'm surprised that your dealer let you leave without a WDH.
If you are worried about gas mileage, you shouldn't have bought a TT.

Really nothing to be done except make sure maintenance is up to date (ie plugs, filters, etc) and all tires are properly inflated. Some vehicles also have a "sweet spot" where they get the best mpg when towing, mine seems to be around 60. Try to keep the wind at your back, lol. ☺

There is NOTHING you can do to make that truck get better mileage towing. That what 90% of gas trucks towing a trailer get. Just gotta deal with it if you want to camp in anything but a tent.

With my 5.7 Hemi w/3:55 rear end, 6 speed tranny pulling 29ft camper at 5400lbs loaded in hill country, 11.6mpg is the best so far at 60mph. And that's if I keep my foot out of it. Fuel mileage is not going to be good. Just something we all have to live with. I try not to think about it too much. We really enjoy going camping at every opportunity. That's what important to us. Enjoy your camper.

Without making drastic changes to your set up, there is really nothing you can do. You may be able to get small improvements if you keep your speeds to around 60 and lighten your load wherever possible. A bigger TV or a smaller trailer will make the biggest impact. I went from 8mpg to 12mpg by getting a larger truck with a diesel engine.
