You guys make me laugh, I sooooo wish I would have just gone over to Concord to pick up my awning brackets, I think I would really like to meet OC. As for me, we had a TT weighing in around 4,000 pulled it with a Tahoe, yup, the same 5.3 as OC, it just wasn't for me, or my family, knowing we would make 6 hour trips I knew I had 2 choices, sell the TT or UPGRADE. Being in the business of knowing vehicles I knew which diesel to go after. Well, we bought a 2500 with a dag blamed diesel, after the last trip in Nov. we agreed we enjoyed our RV life we upgraded to a 5ver. Did we NEED a diesel, no, did I need another TV, yes, we searched and found what seems to be a "good" one, I wouldn't tow without one. Torque, stability from a heavier truck, longer wheel base, turbo brake, allison trans., and yes personal experience, better fuel economy. Tahoe with 4,000 TT single digit, white knuckle, tail wagging, oh **** here comes an 18 wheeler, we're gonna die, what the heck are we doing to a 2500 D/A 9000 5ver one arm out the window, cruise control on 63mph, oh, are we towing something feeling? And I have hand calculated from 11.7 in the mountains to 13.1 on the flats. Personally, I fix my stuff so maintenance costs me peanuts, gas or diesel, large repairs with a diesel can get $$$$$$ for me DIESEL all the way, if I gotta put a pump or injector's in it, I hope I'm close to home so I do it myself, if not, oh well. It would be a one time repair. With my wife using the truck as a DD, we average 14.3 combined, her 5 mile one way commute, and all towing. Here we pay $0.40-$0.50 a gallon more. I see many SUV's that barely get a 14mpg average. Just ask any soccer mom. As for my DD we bought a TDI, yes I know, it's a DIESEL! But even with the price difference, initial cost difference, I like 43mpg!

Only paid 30k with a 19k trade that was paid off.
Well, where I come from 30k with 19k = 49K.
Eggs with bacon sure doesn't mean eggs minus bacon.

I traded for the F350 because, well, it is my dream truck and I found exactly what I was looking for. I have not towed with it yet but my on board computer tells me I'm getting 11.8mpg around town when I got 11 with the Chevy. I am sure it has something to do with the 4.10 rear end diff in the 350. That's ok..this is last truck I plan on buying (fingers crossed) and I want to be ready with the truck when I start part/full timing in 6rys. I will be towing this weekend to the FROG rally in Cincinnati so I will check mpg's with the 350 and report back

make sure you reset that trip computer every once in awhile, or you are reading a lifetime average. That is not "live" economy. You should be getting better than that not towing. I get 17-21 when not towing. Never even came close to that with a half ton gas, let alone a 1 ton diesel.

Get that consistently with my old Silverado and 3.23 rear gear. Better if I hold it to 65 instead of 70-75.

I like to go camping instead of staying motels so I don't worry about the fuel milage if I did I would probably stay home. Beside my ole Dad said go first class or stay home we stayed home most of the time. Now I go camping as much as possiable , by the way I got a diesel truck not for milage but it sure pulls better than the last gasser I had.

I could write pages on this from years of owning and maintaining dozens of each and show the actual dollar amount go back and forth depending on actual vehicles, years, fuel prices, who does maintenance BUT
bottom line is .... is it worth it for you? money after 10 years is not always motivation, nor is performance at 10000ft, or unlimited funds, some have noise ordinances,
as long as it does it for you....you win

I could care less if you get 50 mpg or 2 mpg. No skin off my rear.
Have fun with it! Just make sure you post when it goes BOOM!.

Actually, total cost paid was still $30. Your trade diff was 11. But you still paid 30. You could say your "out-of-pocket" cost was 11, but you still paid 30. Couldn't resist rolling around in this muck!!!!!!
