[QUOTE=Canonman;727702 My 85yo Mom said there was only one thing my dad told her about going on trips with the camper. "If I hear one word about the cost to gas up I'll sell this SOB and we'll stay home." She never complained and they RV'd for over 20 years.[/QUOTE]

Yep, you run with the dogs or lay on the porch! I believe I am getting better mileage than my dad got towing a Fan, similar to the one in the picture, with a Buick LeSabre back in the 1960s.

The good thing was he was only paying about 25 cents/gal.

Unfortunately as a percentage of income there was probably not much difference.

When I was in Michigan earlier this week farmers were filling their John Deere's at Kroeger as it was cheaper.

Here in SC, it is called "off road" diesel and sold right next to the low sulphur .40-.50 cent more for "low sulphur". Signs at all places I buy diesel say, "off road only" farm equipment, some ATV's, etc. If you get "caught" with off road diesel in your tank, you are in deep trouble. However, I don't know of anyone running off road in their pick up. I'm sure some are, I just don't know about it.

A friend of a friend...always bragged about how good of mileage his p/u got. They got the idea to help it...over a few months time they would add gas to his truck. The sassiest rooster couldn't strut more than he did. They kept steady on that for a while...then stopped. A few weeks later they started taking gas...he went crazy trying to figure out what happened. Had it worked on...bla bla. I don't know if they ever told him.

Any diesel truck after 2007 cannot run "off road" diesel anyway.

It'll cause issue's with a low sulfur required diesel vehicle.

The only difference in off-road diesel here is the red dye added and it is not taxed. (BTW 41 years in an oil refinery and one of my duties was auditing the red dye injectors.) Now home heating oil is, for now, higher sulfur, but it has a yellow dye which is only visible with a detector.
