Injectors for a 6.6L diesel are about double that of a 5.3L gas

When you're on a ramp entering an interstate and some A hole in the far right lane driving a puny gasser speeds up to keep you from getting ahead of him, and you punch it, feel yourself being pressed into the seat, and watch in the rear view mirror as that cat and his car are engulfed in a cloud of black smoke, yes your commute is more enjoyable.

A set of eight OEM injectors for a 6.6 will run you just shy of three grand for the parts. Add labor. Injectors are not something you have to replace everyday.

Most if not all were refuting claims that a diesel would pay for the extra cost of the $7000-$10000 price difference in 35,000 miles. Never did tell anyone not to buy a diesel. I sure can't justify even $5,000 with a difference in fuel cost & mileage increase in my area @ only $101 per 35,000 miles and neither could anyone else.
Have fun justifying your diesel, I'm quite satisfied with my weak-kneed, little 5.3 gasser.

Yes, I have seen folks "rolling coal" while driving around, seems like a dick move that gives all diesel owners a black eye.

X2....and im a diesel owner!
They Just act like a bunch of rednecks doing that. And I live in the country, but (I think) I have a little class and my diesel don't "roll coal'. To me that just showes that the engine isnt running right or optimal- I just like a clean burn.
I like my diesels much better for towing than my gassers and I really like the engine or tranny braking that they have ( at least on some manuf.)

A redneck! The last time I was called that I was shooting pool when my kid was born. The next time I "roll coal" I'll be sure to be wearing a shirt. But I've got to tell you, when a guy willfully speeds up to keep me from merging, there's just something about hearing the turbo spool up and knowing he's looking at my tail lights that gives me warm and fuzzy feelings. I learned the hard way to remove the spit can from the dash board when I hammer it. Remember to nobody ever sez, "I wished I'd bought a gasser to do a better job towing my rig"

My wife and I call Humvees and other monstrous 4X4 trucks "pee pee extenders"!

I must like to rubber neck at wrecks-I just read the ENTIRE thread.
OC - "Don't laugh, it's paid for" would go well on your bumper.
I've driven them all, even class 8. I'd love to have a big truck. Most would, I'd bet.
Do those people need one? Maybe not. Do they want one? Yes. Their choice.
Just like fast cars. People get them because they want them. They don't necessarily need them, but they like having them.
So... Anyone want to give me their oil burner? I don't need it, I just want one. I'll pay for shipping!

That's a relatively excellent price. A student was quoted $348 each over the internet for his LLM that were damaged by bad fuel. Maybe he was after the high performance version.

Having been in the oil patch for last 15+ years all my company trucks have been oil burners. They are (IMO) more enjoyable to drive when towing than a gasser but a gasser will also get you there. Diesels just work less to get the job done.
That being said , I couldn't afford my first diesel until I bought my current truck in '11. Kids in college and such. So I get the economics behind buying a gasser due to the upfront money.
The main thing is to get "enough" truck gas/diesel to haul what you want to tow today and possibly in the future so you can get out there and have fun.
