I would love a Diesel F 350 Extended cab Diesel Dually. Practical sense speaking working FT for another 12 years I can not park it in a spot anywhere not to mention -30 d C days and poor dry fuel economy doesn't make sense. When I retire and travel more yes makes sense.

Glad you like your diesel. I like my gasser and until someone shows me what the diesel will do that my gasser isn't other than 2-3 mpg difference, I'll just keep it.

Where do you come up with the $101 difference in fuel cost for 35,000 miles?

B&B, the new diesels have heaters in the fuel tanks and lines and the usual block heaters so cold starting is no big deal anymore. The fuel milage is comparable to the 1/2 ton gassers in most cases and especially tuned. The parking of a dually, yes it can be hard. That is why i go SRW.

Sure you do!
Where are you going to get your mpg ' s for a diesel if you've never owned one?
Borrow someone else's numbers?

I suppose you would go spend $40,000-$50,000 on a diesel to check mileage and find out it increased 2-3 mpg? No wonder they kicked you out of kindergarten the first day. Thank goodness Ms. Amy controls the checkbook! Jeeezzzzz!

That is a lot. My gasser towing 8000 pounds got 8 mpg. My diesel towing 12000 pounds gets 12mpg. A 50% increase in mpg and more weight. So every trip i take that is a big savings. Not the only reason i bought a diesel but one of them.

As I stated previously, I get from 10.0-10.5 with my gasser, so using 10.2 as an ave. and you getting 12 would only be a 2 mpg increase. Sure not worth the extra cost for me. Would not live long enough to justify the change.

So what we've all learned is you ain't gonna convince OC about anything!!
At least we don't have to convince him about the right brand....since he's already driving the best brand out there

Getting gas or diesel probably depends on a number of things. If you are staying on relatively flat land at lower altitudes gas 3/4-1 ton vehicles will probably do just fine.

We were dragging 10K trailer well above 6,000' to as high 9,000'. The diesel did just fine. A gasser might have had little more problems doing that.

One of the differences between gas and diesel is where they produce their power. Gassers need higher RPMs to get into their power curve while diesel produce theirs at lower RPMs. I tend to think that shortens the life on gassers, but I am not that familiar with modern metallurgy.

Beyond that, you may also want to consider 4WD. Cuts down on economy, but I have used mine several times even in RV parks.

Diesels cost more, live longer, tow big loads and that is what they are made for. If you are going to have a heavy trailer and plan to take on heavy grades, a diesel is always a good choice.

Problem is I'm towing 14,000 lbs at that number your not even close to that! Id expect your mpg to be higher.
But that's in material since you'll never know [emoji57]

Which again is why your opinion doesn't count. [emoji12]

BTW who said I paid 40 to 50 g's?
Only paid 30k with a 19k trade that was paid off.

11k for a 2-3 mpg gain? Damn straight!
It's already paid for itself in fuel savings in just under two years.

Ditto, I tow 12k so a gasser is out of the question but even with my race trailer that is 9-10k depending on what we bring with us, my partners 3500 gasser with 6.0 gets maybe 6ish mpg and sucks hind teet in the highway and will barely hold 62 on the 70 speed limit hwy while hunting for gears and my diesel tows it at 72 on cruise getting 11.5 and I can sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. That is 5 more mpg then his truck. There is no comparison.

I like your fuzzy math, just like the govt. 30k+19k=11k

I pull over 13k, a sabre 34tbok(almost 40') with a V10 Gasser. Mileage stinks, but I've pulled with both and given the cost of a comparable diesel, the math doesn't work for me. But, I only pull around 4k miles a year and another 10k empty. Even with only getting 6mpg with my Gasser, and a possible 11 or so with a diesel, it just doesn't work for ME. Another but, if or when I have the extra cash, a 1T diesel dually will pull much better..

BTW, those that keep saying gassers can't keep up or maintain hwy speeds, i do not have that problem. The V10 had tremendous torque for a gas burner and passes anything I want except for fuel stations....

your before and after weights and MPG are identical to mine. Those are common real world numbers. Another way I calculated it, fuel cost per mile on gas was .49. On diesel, .30 per mile. That's a $19,000 savings per every 100,000 miles. So if you drive it for 300,000 miles, that's $57,000 saved, so the truck was free

I recently traded my 2004 Chevy 2500 HD 8.1 gasser for a 2008 F350 King Ranch DRW. I got 8mpg with the Chevy towing my $14k fiver and had plenty of towing power, passing most everything on any grade. I traded for the F350 because, well, it is my dream truck and I found exactly what I was looking for. I have not towed with it yet but my on board computer tells me I'm getting 11.8mpg around town when I got 11 with the Chevy. I am sure it has something to do with the 4.10 rear end diff in the 350. That's ok..this is last truck I plan on buying (fingers crossed) and I want to be ready with the truck when I start part/full timing in 6rys. I will be towing this weekend to the FROG rally in Cincinnati so I will check mpg's with the 350 and report back
