Gear Ratio on my F-350 Dually

Where can I find the gear ratio for my 2003 F-350 6.8L diesel dually? The owner's manual says it's either 3.73 or 4.33(?). I just bought this truck a couple weeks ago.

there should be a tag on the diff housing that will tell the ratio

Go to any Ford Dealer and ask for a "build sheet"...with your VIN# they should be able to print one which will give you all of the info you need

X2 as long as no one has been into the center housing (the tag does not always don't get back) Its a metal tag attached to one of the "bolts". My guess is the 3.73 it would probably have to be ordered for the other ratio.

Being about ten years old the dealer may not have access to the build sheet..
I can't get info on my 05 Dodge

Good Luck.............

My TV is a 2004 and I was able to get the build sheet from a local Chevy dealer...it's worth the try if you can't find the tag on the diff housing, plus it gives you lots of other interesting info...

Here is the easier way to find the gear ratio, just go to the drivers door, look for the white tag, it will either be on the door or on the pillar near the door latch, and get the code where is says "axle". Then look here: Ford F-250/350 Series Gear Ratios

It will take 2 people, but you can always jack up both rear wheels, put a chalk mark on the drive shaft and turn the wheels at the same time in the same direction slowly one complete revolution and count the revolutions of the drive shaft. If it makes 3-3/4 turns, it's a 3.73, 4-1/3 turns, it's a 4.33.

I found F2 on the door post sticker next to Axle. I went to the link provided and it said 4.1L. The owner's manual says it should be either a 3.73 or 4.33???? The "L" means limited slip differential.

Confused: 03 should be ether 6.0 or 7.3, and is most likely 3.73, as oaklevel said would be rare to be anything else.

It may not be the correct manual for the truck -

6.0 - 6.8 - 7.3 ??

Did they even offer a 4.33 rear dif?

Turns out it is a 6.0L Turbo Diesel with a 4.1 rear end. I found the tag on the differential. Apparently, I do have the wrong owner's manual. I've emailed Motorcraft with a request for the proper manual.

We'll see if they respond.
