I'm waiting to see the torque numbers on the new 7.3 liter gasser from Ford; with a 10 speed transmission.

The 6.6L is the next generation replacement for the 6.0L and will be cast-iron block. Here are some details from GM Authority:
"About GM’s New 6.6L V8 L8T Engine
The new L8T gasoline engine features 8 cylinders and displaces 6.6 liters via an OverHead Valve (OHV) layout, otherwise known as push-rod. The GM engine is based on the automaker’s fifth-generation Small Block engine architecture initially introduced by the 6.2L V8 LT1, albeit with a few key differences.
Unlike other Gen V Small Black GM engines that have aluminum blocks (like the LT1), the L8T has a cast iron block. The other big difference is that the L8T engine has a bore of 103.25 mm and a stroke of 98 mm, while the LT1 measures in at 103.25 x 92 mm. Finally, the L8T’s compression ratio runs at 10.8:1, while that of the LT1 is 11.5:1.
In the 2020 Silverado HD and 2020 Sierra HD, the L8T engine is mated to the familiar GM 6L90 six-speed automatic transmission."
I have read that GM has an upgraded 6-speed tranny to go with the new engine. I'm surprised that they haven't mated it to the new 10-speed. I have the 6.2L LT1 motor in my 2017 Silverado and love how it pulls and drives. Should be interesting to see the performance of the new 6.6L on the Ike Gauntlet Challenge.

Then Ram will be forced to come out with better numbers and the cycle repeats itself. The winner the consumer that can afford a new truck

Ram already has a larger Hemi in the works. So the GM has some catching up to do before they even get caught up!

See I sleep for a few weeks and now I’m six weeks behind. Speaking of catching up I read Tesla is promise to out tow the f 150 and that a start up electric truck company is taking over a GM plant in Midwest.

Do you have a link for this info so I can read the details? I'm interested in this roll-out.

They are the SAME truck except for a few cosmetic changes.
That said I prefer the Chevy grill over the huge mouth looking grills they put on the GMC trucks for years.
BUT, if the GMC was significantly less money............That is what Id buy.

Agree to disagree but yes same truck different face. I have always favored the GMC but always have a place in the driveway for a Chevy.

Sure it will. For about 5 miles. Then you'll have to stop for a couple hours to recharge.

If it is the Riven electric truck taking on a gm plant I'm not sure how that works when Ford is a huge Investor it the company.

You can go so big in a gasser before you're better off with a diesel .

We don't disagree at all. We are simply two different humans with two different opinions, Perfectly normal and OK by me.
In fact that is why GM has both brands, because of you and me.

I guess if numbers on paper is the most important metric...but up the Ike with the same weight and identical rear gear ratios (4:10) the little GM 6.0 out pulled the Ram 6.4 by about a minute and half both times.
Maybe Ram cured that embarrassment with the new 8 speed.
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Hopefully the new GM motor keeps the best thing about the 'old' 6.0 in that it works hard and puts up high miles like nothing else in the class. I'm also glad they didn't pair it with the 10speed.
I'm excited for all the new gas HD up and comers...let the testing begin.

Test all you want, as long as I am towing heavy I will be driving a diesel truck. When that is no longer necessary I will most likely switch to a gasser.................then again, maybe not!

Nothing wrong with your thinking but I wouldn't consider your trailer 'heavy' (12000lbs right?) ...I wouldn't hesitate to pull your trailer anywhere in the US with the current 6.0 gas truck.

You can, but when you get into mountains your truck will be working MUCH harder than mine.
Your engine will be Screaming (because that is where a gasoline engine gets it best TQ, while mine is turning around 1800 or so.
It can be done, any do it all the time, I prefer the ease of driving the diesel.

As already mentioned, the new 6.6 is basically the old 6.0 with aluminum heads. It also gets a compression step up, [direct injection, variable valve timing, and 35 more cubic inches. 401 Hp (up by 36 hp) and 464 ft-lbs (up by 83 ft-lbs).
It's not a diesel torque-wise, but the added torque will be welcome. I'm not unhappy with my 6.0 towing 9000 lbs (and moving a 6500 lb 2500 HD) but I'd sure welcome the 83 ft-lbs on those 10% grades.

A few reliable mods are much cheaper than a new truck. The 6.0 is very welcoming to add on's.
