Im a 5k guy myself, I dont care what the dic says, usually still in the 80-90% range at 5k.
I also change fuel filter at the same time- injectors aint cheap even at employee cost! Oh and air too.

I had an AFE and had lots of intermittent smoke problems, went back to stock and all good! Never could notice a difference in power.

With very few exceptions the additive package is good even after the detergent is nearly depleted. When the detergent is gone the antioxidants are not far behind etc. etc. If you don't want to fully trust the confuser put a drop of oil from the dipstick in the center of a 4"x4" section of blotter or construction paper. After about 3 or 4 hours the drop will wick out in a circle. If the detergent is good the color of the circle will be pretty uniform. With diesel there may be a slight darkening at the application spot. When the circle starts getting cleaner after about 75% out you may want to think about changing before it becomes 50%. Paper chromatography for practical applications.
Pass the popcorn, real butter?

Sounds scientific, you can always submit a small sample to a auto lube lab for a real analysis and condition/life.....

Do both and compare, could be future savings if my procedure tracks. Betcha a bowl of popcorn with real butter, no trans fats. Might even dust with some real Parmesan cheese.
