It's not actually a Fiat engine, V M Motori was around long before Fiat bought them. The company ownership bounced around a bit over the years. They have been part of Detroit Diesel, Daimler Chrysler, Penske, GM, and Fiat.
Their engines have been used in several vehicles produced by Land Rover, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Ford and GM.
After some research, I'm fairly confident in the motor, it seems pretty well built.
