Good brake controllers?

Howdy all.

I'm looking into installing a brake controller and the place I called for a quote said they'd put in either a Tekonsha Voyager or a Curt Discovery. I'd mentioned to the guy how I was looking at the Prodigy on etrailer's site and he said it's a nicer controller but is generally used by those pulling livestock and not really needed for pulling a TT under 6k gvwr (which is the type I'm planning on upgrading to in the near future).

I'm new to all this and wondered what opinions everyone has on these? Should I ask about a different and/or better brand/model?

Thanks!

I use the Prodigy 3 and seems to do a great job. Very easy install.

If you are getting a brake controller, step up to the 21st century and get a Prodigy. It's inertia activated and regardless of your trailer size, is a great controller.

I had a Voyager for several years and was constantly having to adjust it. Last year I replaced it with a Prodigy - it works perfect and I never have to fiddle with it.

The Curt Discovery is a time based activation unit......not a good thing. Get a proportional unit.

Love our Prodigy P3. Works perfect and controls all my trailers very well as I haul a 2 horse trailer, an 18ft flat deck and the 34 1/2 ft V-Lite.

Do you mean the Tekonsha P3 or the Tekonsha Prodigy P2? I'm trying to look at Tekonsha's site to learn more and not seeing a Prodigy P3.

Thanks!

I have a Prodigy P2 and it's great. My first brake controller and trailer, so if I can use it so can you. It's easy to set and understand, shows the current brake force while engaging, and gives you any trouble codes as issues arise. It comes with a permanent bracket mount and another slide mount. The P3 has more features and things to display, but for just simple towing to/from campsites I'd say get the P2 and save the $50.

RVW has the best price I've seen.

Tekonsha gave the original Prodigy, the P2 name, when they came out with the newer P3 model.

They just installed a Voyager in my truck for my first trailer. Seems like they are troublesome. Wish I would have read this forum before they installed it. I really don't want to be adjusting it all the time.

Basically the only difference between----------

The only difference between the Prodigy P2 and the P3, the P-3 will control more axles. For example 3,4, axles.

If you want to save a few bucks and have the same performance as Prodigy P2, get a Primus IQ. Same internal system minus some bells and whistles of its more expensive cousin.

I have one and it works great!

Had the Voyager as well and was constantly adjusting. Switched to the P3 and love it!!! It is worth the extra money.

Purchased it at Adventure RV.net Tekonsha P3 Electric Brake Control Controller RV Camper - $111.99..

You can't go wrong with it for the price they are selling it at.
