Well after owning my 2011 f150 ecoboost for 4 years and with over 100.000 miles I have traded it in for a 2016 Nissan Titan xd sv 4x4 with the Cummings 5.0 diesel although a die hard ford fan I have jumped ship and am again a diesel owner I haven't towed our vibe yet but with 11.600 towing capacity I shouldn't have a problem. Ford has priced me out of their line up and with the 2017 models coming out their only going up in price. And before the better brand police chime inn I have spent two weeks comparing the big three to the Nissan. In 1/2 tons Nissan has done their homework with this new truck and engin set up. Will follow up with the first pull experience. Safe travel everyone

I wanted a Titan Cummins but was very disappointed in the cargo carrying capacity. The 5.0L sounds like a great engine and would love to see it in a F250 one day.

The 2016 Titan XD payload is 2,489 lbs. Towing capacity is between 9,713 and 12,310 lbs. depending on the config. It appears they exceeded the F150 HD/max tow even. That said they aren't cheap IMO.

Most articles show XD diesel payload as 2,000 lbs.

It does appear that the diesel cuts the payload.

The weight of the Diesel engine usually does but still 2000 is better than I would have guessed.... Heck it's better than my old 2009 f250 psd with a payload of 1500 lbs.

They're not cheap at all. Even the ecodiesel Dodge 1500 is not cheap. Might as well step into a 3/4 or 1 ton at those price points.

I am making the leap to diesel too, but I am going with a slide in camper.
I looked at the Titan this weekend and they are very nice.
But they do not come with and 8 foot bed and the Titan only has a payload of 1590 lbs which is too light for just about any full size slide in camper.

I am probably buying a 2007 Lance 1181 camper and it is 4000lbs with all tanks filled and loaded up. It is the top of the Lance line and this one is like new, but it requires the truck to be a dually for stability.

Right now I am very close to buying an F350 crew cab 4X4 with 6.7L diesel and dual rear tires. It has towing capacity of 18,500 lbs and a payload of 7,110 lbs.
But I am still looking at the GMC 3500 dually Duramax trucks too. I hear these are the best diesel truck for performance and reliability, but the newer Fords (>2010) are very good also and my wife likes the Fords better for some reason.
I love the Cummins engine, but I have eliminated the Dodge trucks due to the fact that the Cummins engine in the Dodge still has an unreliable Dodge truck around it. No offence meant for Dodge owners that love their trucks. But for me it is going to be GMS or Ford only.

I wish Toyota and Nissan would get into the +1 ton truck market as their reliability is the best.

I sold my 2008 Sequoia last weekend and I will be selling my 2011 SS2216-Limited 27' toy hauler within the next few weeks. We just finished an 11,000 mile trip to Alaska/Canada from San Diego and that trip made me decide to sell the toy hauler and Sequoia and go with 4x4 truck with camper on it. I just want to be able to go down any road or into any parking lot without having to worry if I can make it back out.

We were just considering a low mileage 2014 used F350 6.7 but only the SRW. As you said the payload doesn't quite cut it for medium to large 5er's or slide-ins. We are back to looking for a DRW.

Chrysler Corp vehicles reliability problems ??? My last 5 vehicles have been Dodges. 1995 Neon..165000 miles when traded. 2000 Durango..140000 miles when traded. 2006 Stratus..140000 miles when traded. 2008 Durango..95000 miles and counting. 2013 Ram 1500..43000 miles and counting. Not one broke, died, or left me stranded. No warranty work. Just a few recalls. I'll take that record anyday.

I'm currently looking at a 2016 as well. It's not easy getting gas in the 2012 F-150 with a 35' trailer. It's time for a diesel. I grew up a Chevy man and feel kind of treasonous looking at a Nissan, but my wife didn't like the Silverado or the Ram.

I guess folks on here don't read or like to believe consumer reports? I normally find that the worse one's vehicle rates - the less likely one is to acknowledge CR's statistics but the samples sizes are very large on their analysis. What any individual's experience was is irrelevant statistically.

They are rated from Poor, Fair, Good, Very Good, to Excellent in CR

Toyota are rated Excellent
Ford trucks are rated Very Good
Ram and Nissan rated Fair
GM/Chevy Poor


This is for 150/1500 class and I just looked it up. Over all categories, though, Ford was rated the best and recommended. Toyota second then Ram. Then GM/Chevy, and lastly the Titan. Please don't kill the messenger.

Last Wednesday, I traded my 2012 GMC Sierra SLE 1500 Ext Cab 2WD with 5.3L V8 and 6-spd transmission for a 2017 Nissan Titan SV Crew Cab 4x4 with 5.6L V8 (gas) and 7-spd transmission. I tow a 2015 Flagstaff TT 26FKWS weighs dry 5,800 lbs - loaded close to 7,000 lbs. Today, I hooked up the TT to the Titan and took a drive around Winnipeg's Perimeter Hwy a distance close to 60 kms. With a head wind, tail wind and side winds - the Titan towed effortlessly compared to my old Sierra. Even with the Titan's payload of 1,600 lbs and towing capacity of 9,200 lbs, I'm very happy that I made the trade.
