I should add that the Equalizer also adds sway control

I chose the 4pt Equal-i-zer because there's no drilling needed, its simplicity, integrated sway control and it was around $300 at the time.

Also, you don't need to unhook the bars to back up, like you do with the cheaper WDHs with add-on friction antisway bars.

I put an Equalizer 4 point with sway on CL. It had been used 3 times. Sold for the $350 ask in 1 day.

Measuring tongue weight

I recall from many years ago a system of measuring the tongue weight of a trailer by using a bathroom scale and a 2X4 resting from a block to the scale at a specific distance. There is some math involved by multiplying reading on the scale by the number of feet from the tongue placement on the 2X4 (2 or 3 feet). I have never tried this but I'm wondering if anyone has and what your opinions are of the accuracy of this system? It seems to me any weight behind the rear wheels of your tow vehicle should be added to the hitch weight but I don't know if you can hitch you t.v. up and do this check. All thoughts appreciated.

As long as your math is accurate, accounting for the 2x4s, etc and the scale is somewhat accurate I don’t see why it’s not possible

Last summer we were able to play around on a scale while on our camping trip so I know what our weights are now as we’re loaded up

Lins, that’s a good price considering shipping all the way to NWT. I visit relatives a couple times a year about 10 minutes from the US border so I ordered mine from RV Wholesalers with free shipping to a border point near my relatives’ place and I went over to pick it up.

The Equal-i-zer will serve you very well with your Rockwood.

Thumbs up Equal I Zer WDH

I was confused about WDH's when we got our MiniLite...

Only towed utility carts and non brake trailers before getting the camper.

I could not figure how the WDH was going to do all it does, till I saw a Youtube video with a guy explaining how it transfers the weight.

When he said the "torsion" bars attached to the hitch on the tow vehicle act like the handles on a wheel barrow, boom, the light went off and it then was clear to me how the WDH works.

Very grateful to that (and all) Youtube posts! I have learned a ton from forums and Youtube.

Our MiniLite is a single axle 1905, towed with an F150 with factory tow,(2.7 ecoboost and a 3.31 axle) I went with an Equalizer 1000/10,000lb 4 way set up.

Off topic a bit but the 2.7 Ecoboost and that 3.31 axle work very well. In mountain or hilly spots, I lock out overdrive and it pulls our 9800 total gcvw with no problems and decent mpg's too. 13+ on the flats running 65mpg, dips to 10mpg going faster or running into hills. More than enough power.

I thought it was too much hitch, but the Equalizer rep at an RV show along with many posts on the topic said that was the rating I would need.

It works like a charm. No sag, no sway and NO NOISE!!!

I have heard what they can sound like, but ours is quiet.

I used the plastic pads Equalizer sells for the brackets on the trailer side for the torsion bars to rest on, that makes that end silent, and I think the biggest thing to keep it all quiet is that I grease everything.

It makes it a mess to handle but there is no noise from any part of the hitch. Silent. Only get the sound of the play in the bars hitting the removable pins on the trailer side brackets.

Tight maneuvering, hard turns in a campsite, backing all quiet and nothing to disconnect backing or worry about.

I am totally satisfied with the Equalizer 4 way.

Posted only to describe our experience with the set up we have hoping it may help somebody out there confused as to what rating / hitch to get.

I know I was sure confused and sort of closed my eyes and hit the order button for the Equalizer... but glad I did.

Nothing against any other brand or set up, just saying how ours turned out.

RVWholesalers always have a big spring sale on their Equal-I-zer hitches.
Currently $431.99, which is interesting, because I think I saw it over $500 in-season.

Thanks, but you are in the States. $130 to have it shipped to Alberta as they don't have my location on their website. $561.92 USD shipped which comes to $740 CAD and I'm not sure if that includes customs duties (usually doesn't).

Amazon usually ships for free thankfully. I bought our Curt hitch from there as well just to get going and see how the family takes to camping. It seemed like a sturdy hitch and worked great at first, but then the pins that hold the bars in place started to wear badly, and slowly unload preload on longer trips having to tighten the chain overtime. They were sloppy even when new and no amount of grease could prevent the wear.

Equalizer hitch question

I am curious as to how much bend should there be with the equalizing bars when fully hitched? Am I correct to assume a certain amount of bending is normal? Thanks,

Mo
