Got a 2011 F250 for a few days (Hummm)

Well the big old Dodge is in the body shop getting the remainder of the $6000.00 of hail damage fixed and I needed a truck to haul water so I went to the Ford dealer where my friend works a got a loaded 2011 F250 Lariat FX4 for a few days. It has a 6.2 with 3.73's and the electric locker etc as it has the off road package. Gotta say I am pretty impressed, it rides much better than the Dodge tank and that 6.2 gasser with the 6 speed is pretty sweet. It was kind of lazy when I got it as it has abt 60k miles on it and the PO was very easy on it as it is mostly miles from Moose Jaw to Arizona where he has other businesses. After a few spritly acceleration runs up to abt 70 it is now shifting pretty firm in manual mode and 60 mph comes up pretty quick. I really like the interiors on the Ford trucks and this is no exception except for the gawd awfull creamy color whatever Ford calls it but we could live with that. Gonna hook up both the V-Lite and give it a pull this weekend as well as haul 3 or 4 loads of water and see how it does. The one thing I am not impressed with is the nav system, how is it a $3200.00 nav system does not have as good a maps as my $250.00 TomTom? There are no maps of the local roads around here at all, my TomTom has all the grid roads from around here and I have had to use it a couple times in the winter during blizzards to find our road going home. That sure wouldn't happen with this thing. So we will see how it fairs over the weekend and who knows maybe it will take up residence in the Quonset if they cannot fix the roof on my Dodge as there are no roof's available in north america with a back order list that is growing and no scheduled production.

Sounds like a Ford in your future!

I almost bought a Ford just because of the well appointed interior, nobody can match it...I hear the same comment from Ford buddies that the nav is a joke for the upgrade price you pay or it.

Ford's nav system is not the only POS out there. I have a Dodge with the built in Nav and the DW has a Mazda with it as well. Both are crap! Neither one is user friendly at all and at least $200 to update the maps. We still use a Garmin in my truck and a TomTom in her car.

Well, for what it's worth, it's not just the nav that is $3200. It's the entire unit...radio, SYNC, etc. That being said, everything I have seen and read says don't do it. It's not worth the money you pay for the upgrade. It's pretty, but not very useful. Kinda like the directions via the SYNC system. If I had to rely on them, I'd never get anywhere. Give me my Garmin Nuvi anytime!

Oh I realize that Ed. The backup camera displaying on the screen is very nice and large although the watching movies while stopped is a bit of a joke. We did get the GPS working better so I will have another go tonight on the way home.

The Nav in my Denali is not much better, the only save grace is the ability to send google directions from my phone

Funny! That's such a personal thing... we picked the Dodge due to it's interior!

I have a 2011 just like you discriber but didn't waste my money on the NAV system. The 6.2L engine and 6 speed trans is great. I had no problems pulling almost 12,000 lb 5th wheel.

Here is a picture of mine but I no longer have a 5th wheel.

i have the nav in mine...map updates are free...my friend at a car stereo shop had my "updated" when it was in for custom subs behind rear seat..it works great now...my tom tom seems to know "backcountry" roads better, i like the traffic on mine, as well as the ability to check sports scores, weather and DIESEL prices while traveling!...and there is a way to watch movies and input nav input while driving...its requires an additional little box.....now my dvd plays on the main screen and BOTH headrest screens while driving....enjoy!

The bucket seats with the full center console is great for 2 adults and the back seats are OK for someone up 200 lbs and under 6ft tall.
If the driver and passenger isn't long legged and can move the buckets forward you have lots of room in the back.

We just love ours and actually rather drive it on long trips (no trailer) than my car. It always gets thumbs up from lots of guys and even gals.
The actual pain job was selected by my DW and we had this made to our specs.

Mileage isn't great but you can hit 19 mpg not towing

I had the tan leather in my '08 and liked it well enough. I have the black cloth in my current truck, and like it better, but boy, does the dog hair show up more! Good and bad with any color is what I've found over many years of ownership.

Well,

I think we are just going to take it back and call it a day. Although the truck is nice and does ride better than our 08 Ram 2500, it is not $20,000 better. I can put a cam, gears and better suspension on our Ram that will make it ride and pull far better than the Ford for under 5k. Will it be a Ford? noway no how but I just got out from under an upside down truck loan and don't want to repeat that again. To bad as we do like the Ford, although there are some things we liked better in the styling of the 09 we were looking at a few years back as I think Ford may have overdone the bigger is better a bit.

i for one would like to commend you on making a informed, and finacially prudent (as my cpa calls it) decision. In the end you are absolutely right...your truck will get the job done! Glad you gave the ol ford a fair shake!! These new trucks really are neat, but all the new epa mandates really have driven the prices up across the board. Hopefully your ram will give you many more years of use and trouble free miles.....thats all we can really hope for in the end i guess with ANY truck!!
