Grease Weight Distribution Hitch?
Hi. We use a Fastway E2 Weight Distribution Hitch. We do use grease on the ball and the moving 'joint' parts of the hitch. I remember reading somewhere NOT to grease the bars on the hitch, as they provide friction in assisting with the sway control. Recently, we were at a trailer/hitch/welding site and before we pulled out they put axle grease on the bars where the friction is applied. Is this right? Would appreciate knowing what you do. Thanks.

If that's the case then you no longer have ANY sway control. Might just as well not bother hooking up the hitch unless you absolutely have to have the weight distribution function working.

I can't speak to a Fastway E2, but Equalizer says to lubricate.
See figure #23 on pg 23 of the attached PDF.
UPDATE:
The E2 manual also says to lubricate. See Step 10, fig 19, page 21.

I always kept my metal to metal points greased. Greatly cut down on noise.
WD bars are for weight distribution, sway control controls sway.

Rockfordroo, the EQUL manual says Lube the Head area,Not the end of the bars where the L brackets are located! SKnight, the Bars Are the "Sway Control" be it EQUL or Reese Dual Cam,Both require Friction on the Arms for Sway control, and Reese DC has the "Cam Detent" that also must be overcome as well as Friction! Youroo!!

You're right, I thought she was talking about the bar hinge points.
That being said, Equalizer does make these for the L-brackets:
They're called Sway Bracket Jackets. I have a set and they quiet the hitch down very well.

Clean the grease off ASAP. That is your only friction point on the E2 hitch and provides 100 per cent of your sway control.

Light coat of spray lithium. Hitch works great.

AND - they cost us 50 cents to make, so we'll charge $20 for them!

The ball and socket/head surfaces....and the slide out gear track and the stab jack screws and mower deck mechanism and...
I do wipe the brackets and bars down after towing with the greasy rag I've used to keep them clean. But the amount of grease on that friction point is negligible.
When the hitch makes noise it means it is working.

Definitely do not grease the friction bar, as that is your sway control. Grease only where the bar connects to the hitch. Clean off the grease from the friction bar other areas, Dawn dish liquid would do well.

Blue Ox is not a friction based hitch. Most if not all spring bars need grease at the hitch head, but not where they meet with trailer A frame.

My WDH has grease fittings, so I grease it, never had a problem with sway.

I knew you good people would have the answer.
I am not losing my mind hehehe, I DID read somewhere NOT to grease the friction point on the bars.
Done. Grease cleaned from the sway bars.
Thank you Rockfordroo for the link.
THANKS TO ALL OF YOU for your knowledge

Equalizer does note these will reduce the friction and sway control and should be used if you have severe swat issues. I use them on mine, albeit overpriced.
