Ps On the road every day for 40 years driving thru all kinds of weather and never had an accident let alone due to the weather.

Just based on the picture With snow on the ground may have been a hint with out knowing the full story. As stated black ice see to be the cause because the driver did not see it. I am sorry to say but not all professional drivers are perfect.

What makes a person that drives a professional, the type of license one has, I have a class "B" I am not professional I just past a test but I have been driving for 49 years and had just one accident that was my fault and to this day I still drive 35 to 40,000 miles a year in all kinds of weather.

I think that distracted driving has been moved to #1 now with speeding and then drunk driving at #3.

Bottom line, if you have slide on the road with your truck on one side and trailer on other......you will be in the frame of mind that a truck can never be too big.....and you will never be strong enough to hold the door open and pull yourself out.....if you have not had a mishap, you will continue to pull trailers with not enough truck....roll the dice

It's all about payload capacity and pin weight. IMO an F150 only can work with the HD payload package (which you don't have) and a really light 5er. I think you would be asking for trouble.

Ford's problem is that the Ecoboost is a towing monster so it is tempting to overload the truck.

The 7200lb GVWR is a killer - we ran into the same thing with our F-150. I don't know for sure how they determine that - but even though the truck may pull/carry more than that, things like the transmission may not hold up, and those are expensive repairs. Plus by going to 3/4 ton, you take a mileage hit for the all the miles you aren't towing.

If you only take it out a couple times for short trips and it really is a great deal, what about a seasonal site or having somebody transport it for you? Might be cheaper than buying a bigger truck...

The cut to the chase, answer is simply no, you cannot work this combo with the Eco boost. half ton in general is a no go for fifth wheels unless a tiny one, due to pin weight. Frankly I prefer to see 80% of maximum weight as most when doing any highway driving. Just helps to preserve truck as well.
End of day, need bigger truck or smaller trailer.

Most 1/2T's are capable of carrying 1,000#-1,200# in the bed, thus the name 1/2 T. As long as that no. is followed AND the tires are at least LR D or LR E, you should be ok. Most lawyer sticker numbers are for P rated tires which are absolutely horrible to use with any trailer, tongue or 5er.

unless you have a f450 or bigger and pulling a canned ham your truck will never be big enough .
But sometimes bigger is not always better unless you have unlimited funds , by the time you buy a bigger truck, you won't be able to afford to go camping or rv'ing

Another factor is his gear ratio, 3.55 is fairly tall for towing especially that heavy of a trailer. I have a 96 f 250 with a 7.3 power stroke, with 3.55 gears and it does not like going much over 65 pulling a wolf pack weighing only 6000 ish.(I know I know, st tire rating so flame on if you want!) I will be re gearing to 4.11 ASAP! We all know the frontal area makes a huge difference. I just don't see that truck being very happy pulling that 5ver.

My 1500 with a 5.3L and 3.23 gear must be extremely unhappy pulling the 8528RKWS or the 831RLSS, but it hasn't protested in 7 yrs and approx. 35,000 miles of pulling them.

I have only pulled mine from the dealership to home, and it pulled like a dream and the truck stayed in 6th gear most of the time, we will only be doing short trips till momma retires.

btdt that with a 95 f250 psd pulling a '06 30wp but with the 4.10's it pulled decent and a bumped engine. the op does have some high gear in the back and that will be interesting to tow with. i have a good friend i with a 97 f250 with 3.55's and under 65 mph he haaaas to shut od off or stay between 73 adn 80 mph. different trucks i know but gearing plays a big roll and available gears just as much!! lol


i know a guy that has a small fifth wheel camper 5k lbs empty. he pulls to local lakes and camp spot's 99% of the time so he didn't think it was a problem towing it with his chevy s10 blazer auto with a 4.3 vortec v6! leach camper sales in lincoln ne on the corner of 27th and cornhusker hwy installed the fifth hitch in that s10 pick up because the camper they just sold him met the truck towing specs!! it was like an 04 or 06 model. 1 a year he goes down to a harley meet in missiouri somewhere and he towed that camper down twice with the s10. as long as he kept it under 60 mph he said it didn't do to bad but a 15 mph made him pull over to clean his shorts lol lol the truck went in for body work and the body shop caught fire and the truck burned so he bought a 1/2 ton chevy. where it is very true that your with in specs and most likely a good driver the real question is how much stress blood pressure spikes are you willing to put up with and do you normally have an extra day to take off for your trips to calm down from the drive? lol
