Hitch falls apart in u-turn?
So here's what happend. I installed a Reese weight distributing hitch with duel cam sway control, all was well until I went to do a left hand tight u-turn and the left trunion bar popped clean off the hitch. I had stop and run back and pick it up and reinstall it.
Any ideas why this might happen or is this a common problem? Not sure I feel safe with this now.

Sounds like the brackets on the trailer might be too far back.

That is what I thought but everything seems to line up good. Was just hoping someone with more experience with this could help.

You need to move the brackets on the trailer forward some.

X2 on pictures. We regularly jackknife our trailer to back it into our driveway with same hitch and have never had it come apart.

If you make a very sharp turn, to the point of the truck and trailer almost contacting each other the possibility is high that it could pop off. If your cams are centered when the truck and trailer are straight ahead then you are set up properly. I only popped one off once. At the end of my street doing a very tight turn around. Otherwise it's been 11 years and 20k+ miles with no issues.

Think the problem was way to tight of a turn. Did al kinds of turns last couple days with no problem.
However I do have another problem. With this system if I have it set on four links I am getting sway, but if I go to three links I get a lot less sway but everything shimmies when I first take off.
Just to give you some numbers at the wheel wells it is 36 front, 37 rear,
Truck is 2014 F-150 5.0 motor
Toy hauler is 26rr, total weight hauling about 6700 lbs well below the 7750 max.

That's why they recommend taking the bars off during backing since it's to ez to turn sharp backing. Our pdi suggested taking them off before getting into the tights turns of a campground.

Are you certain it was up and snapped into the hitch? Hook it all up and use your foot to not actually stand on the bar but test that it did clip into the hitch. Just one of my insane sanity checks. Good luck.

I assume you have the bars with the curve @ the end , If you had the old style I would say maybe it was upside down.

Have the same hitch and had the same problem. Download the install instructions you have to move brackets and then re adjust the cam length. I still would drop one every one in awhile If I did a real tight turn. It is a great and I sway hitch. Had absolutely no sway

Mine does not have clip to lock bar in. The upward pressure of the chain pulling up keeps it locked in place. My other hitch had the lock clip to prevent it coming out..

I know the dual-cam is a picky breed. My TV can't turn sharp enough to cause this. If not correct, it would seem to me, your WDH / anti-sway would do more harm than good. But, maybe your TV can turn much sharper than mine... maybe where you turned the road wasn't flat? Pics would be nice. Set it up again and take a photo (or two) of each side while straight then when in a tight turn.

There are no brackets, per se, to move. There are cam bar link mounts and the position is determined by the factory; by centering the WDH bar pockets on the cams the length of which is adjustable.
Here's mine on the floor and for sale.
