Hitch First Use Report
Someday I will buy a larger tow vehicle but until I retire I need to live with what I have. My current tow vehicle is a 2015 Escape and I'm pulling a Roo 17. Knowing that I was pushing the limit of the combination I elected to upgrade my hitch to see what was possible.
1. Started with a old Reese WDH and the day I picked up the trailer it was gusty. - safe but not pleasant trip home.
2. Added a friction sway control that I had from a previous trailer and it helped a bit but still not worry free driving.
3. upgraded to Reese Strait line WDH with Dual Cam system. - Wow now pulling without concern. - yes I still know it's back there but when the semi's pass it's not much different than the feeling you get in a full size van without a trailer. One wiggle then back straight!
Power to weight ratio is better than my old RAM pickup pulling a 30 footer and the millage is twice that. Can crest most hills at 60 while getting over 12 MPG.
Still to go - have upgraded tires to load range D which should add to the lateral stability of the Roo, but haven't taken it back on the road yet. All in all for such a tiny tow vehicle it does great and I'm back to carefree cruising.
