Hitch mounted bike carrier

We are buying two bikes this year and will carry them on a bike rack in the rear of the FR3100ss MH. Each bike weighs 42 lbs so those flimsy racks that I find will not carry the weight as they are limited to 35 for each bike.
What units have you other folks used that works out better than the light units?
We did not want to clamp it to the bumper, rather want to use the Reese hitch with a compatible carrier. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

As far as I know, Swagman is the only manufacturer that makes a bike rack approved for RV use.

This is what I use but it is probably more than you want. It is mounted along with the cargo rack.

Let's Go Aero GearCage Rack Attachment | Discount Ramps

I put my wife's tricycle on the cargo carrier and my bike on the rack. Use it behind a Sunseeker 2250 Class C MH.

I don't have any good pictures except too far away or too close but you can see the idea.

IMO any rack needs a tension strap added to eliminate the bouncing. That strap fastened to a good spot like a roof rack or a ladder will allow any carrier to carry much more weight than without it.

This rack, from Yakima is "RV Approved" https://www.yakima.com/roadtrip
Personally, I'm not a fan of it, nor do I get too excited about the Swagman RV approved racks. Part of the question is how much do you want to spend? The Yakima and Swagman are not priced to badly. I use an Thule T2 Pro XT rack on the back of out Class C rig when traveling. I can also use it on our toad, if need be. There are very few "RV Approved" bike racks out there, and I don't really care for how they are made or operate. If available, I'd recommend going to REI, or a bike / custom shop that carries bike racks and play with them to see what you like and don't like vs how much you are willing to spend. Also recommend that you get a rack with a 2" mount if going the hitch mount route.

I wanted a super solid bike rack for the pin box of our 5th wheel hitch. I purchased a Thule T2 "add on" extension and just used the two platforms bolted to a straight piece of receiver tubing. This eliminates ALL slop as there are no joints anywhere. Pictures and a better description are in the thread linked below. If doing this on the back of your trailer, you may need to raise the tubing for ground clearance with a couple of right angles welded in.

Yakima Roadtrip

I bought the Yakima Roadtrip for the back of my 5th wheel. It is approved by Yakima for the rear of a trailer. It is very heavy duty and can hold up to 4 bikes. It does not fold up in any way, so you take it out of the receiver when not using it. It fits a 2" receiver.

The best unit I found is made by Hollywood Racks out of Caifornia. I take an ebike an ebike that weighs 65 lbs on the back of my motorhome. I jyst came back from a 9,000 mile ,two month trip with no problems. Thule makes one too but I needed one that works on a fat bike with 4" tires. Hollywood makes different width rails on theirs. Its also all steel and aluminum. Be prepared to spend 500 for a quality rack that will take the weight. I've seen cheap racks break in half or bikes just aren't secure.

I use the Saris Axis aluminum three bike rack, but they make other Hitch bike racks. They are more pricey, but are very well built. https://www.saris.com/catalog/racks/hitch

Check out Etrailer.com I bought my bikerack from them at a good price. It was motorhome approved. Its the Swagman XC and it also allows for the trailer hitch under it so you can still pull a car, boat, ect. It cost $259.00. It's been great with 2 long trips under it's belt.

I just use a standard hitch carrier that cost under $100 and holds 500 pounds. Even good enough for my 200 pound Honda Trail 55, and a bike or two. It is sort of wedged into the spare tire so it doesn't wiggle at all and I also add a couple straps up to take some of the twisting weight and bounce off of the simple bumper clamp hitch. Often will put firewood or gas cans there when when no bikes and it makes a nice spot while camping for the big 7 gallon water jug used to fill dog dishes or wash off dishes or hands with out having to go inside.

Keep in mind the bike hitch will extend outward and possibly drag / dig in on some incline / decline driveways !

Those are some heavy bikes ! Are they e- bikes ?

Check out 1UP-USA, very solid bike racks that fit into hitch receiver on the back of our trailer and we can move to the hitch on our TV when not towing. They are not cheap but we have one and both our sons have them. We did have a receiver hitch welded to the rear of our trailer when we bought it.
