Hitch problem

I just picked up a 2013 vibe 6504. We had some trouble getting the Hitch safety to lock. We got it locked and I pulled the RV home. I could not get hitch to pop off the ball. Tried everything I could think of. Then I pulled pen and I left the whole assembly hanging off the trailer. I'm going to lubricate it quite well and get a screwdriver and try to pull The assembly off. Hopefully that will work. Any other ideas are welcome. Even after I removed it from the car I could not pull the assembly off the ball. Help!

Pressure of the ball in the socket can cause this.
MAKE SURE trailer is chocked well.
Put Tow Vehicle in neutral and release brake let truck settle and set parking brake. The relaxing of the tension should allow the keeper to retract easily.

Look under the hitch socket, there is usually a nyloc nut there that can be adjusted to either increase or decrease the ball/socket clearance.

Chock the wheels and pull the truck forward slightly. This will move the ball to the front of the coupler releasing the pressure. It then should unlock easily. Also if your last move when positioning the trailer is pulling forward, this usually will leave the ball a bit forward in the coupler and it will probably unlatch with no problem.

Since you (Have it Hanging) on the trailer, remove the (Locknut from below) washers, spring, and linkage. Clean all parts and check for Burrs on the linkage and Forked-cupped part that mates to the other half of Ball. Remove all burrs and re- assemble with light oil, adjust the locknut to allow easy removal of the (Proper) size ball! Youroo!!

The dealer said to take a woodblock and hammer and tap the safety tab. He thinks it is jammed and doing that may release the safety fully. I will try all options tomorrow night

Thanks all

As I'm using my right hand on the electric tongue jack I use my left arm to slightly rock my truck back and forth and that's usually enough to make the receiver slide off of the ball.

Got it fixed. Needed to be well lubricated. The ball is rusty and can use a deburring. Thanks everyone!
