I don't own a 5er, but I recall watching a youtube video a couple years back. This guy put a thin strip of tape on the back glass centered with the hitch and put another strip of tape centered on the 5er. As he backed up the two strips would need to be aligned in the mirror.

Just a thought.

Safe and happy travels.

That's a pretty good idea.

Thanks for sharing.

I get you now, no way my mirror would overcome that. My cover is a Lund roll-up.
Good luck

Don't have the 5er issue but I did run a backup camera that sits on the rear view mirror and ran the camera wire through the high mount tail light. You would have to do above. On the plus side you also get a DVR for insurance. https://travidstore.com/products/car...kaAvqZEALw_wcB

If you just want temporary you could do this.
EsiCam Battery Backup Camera Wireless for Smart Phone Versatile Used for RV Travel Trailer Hitch Tow Truck Home Security Baby Monitor Creative All in One Camera with Flash and Battery-EH05-B https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074L9GZ2D..._I5lWCbTNPB1HG

Has a magnetic mount and 8hr battery.

Well I tried the yellow telescopic alignment ball and it worked great. I stuck it 5" in front of the jaws and I was able to make a direct shot to the kingpin.
I also tried it at different angles and had the same outcome.
A big thanks to all who provided suggestions and personal experiences. I really do appreciate you taking the time to post in an effort to help me.

Thanks again,
Tom
