Honda 2012 CRV Issue

New to RVing and just travelled from Fredericksburg, VA to Beckley, WV towing a Honda CRV 2012. No lights or other electric items on yet the battery was dead after five hours on road. Do I need to pull a fuse? Didn't indicate I had to in the owners manual. Leaving in two days for Kentucky and want to get this issue resolved before then. Thanks for any suggestions.

Honda recommends when towing for long periods to remove the 7 1/2 amp accessory radio fuse.

Hope this will solve your problem.

You can also install a switch. The bad news is that either option will loose the program settings in the radio according to our dealer. Our brake unit sends a trickle charge to the battery but we haven't towed far enough yet to know if that is sufficient.

Yes and it is not fun to get to. I suggest getting some needle nose pliers and extra of those micro fuses cause they will easily fall behind the panel.

Small solar panel on the dash to provide some charge?

Wow... dead battery after 5 hours? That's a lot of power being drawn! My bet is there is something more than just the radio drain going on. They're good for normal parasitic current draw, but a solar panel won't stop that kind of discharge.

Need to find where the drain is coming from. Disconnect battery and put a meter in the circuit. See what drain is. Pull fuses one at a time to find drain.

Be cautious with this.
Most cheap meters are fused at 10a.
Fluke goes up to 20.

I installed a battery maintainer by brake buddy that you can find on Amazon for $20 or so. Hooks into your 12V feed from the 7-way plug harness. Worked like a charm for over 10,000 mile Alaska journey except for one time when the connection came loose. Sure beats pulling fuses and installing cutout switched.

I put a switch on that fuse. I lost at least 5 behind the kick pad trying to pull or reinstall the fuse. I have a 2014 with navigation, and that staying on killed my battery in about 5 hours.
Haven't had any more problems.

Try out a wireless light system. The transmitter plugs into the hitch harness and they are rechargeable.

My wife's 2013 Honda CRV had issues with the battery going dead after a day or so. The dealer had it for a week and the best they said was an after market remote they had jobbed out to install was at fault. Swapping it out did help but still drained out after a period of time. They claimed that there was a lot of electronics running in the back ground. Now I keep a battery jump pack charged up in the back seat.

I have no idea whether your Honda is like my Chevy HHR but I made the mistake of turning the key to the 2nd position(the engine would run in this position) instead of the 1st position which was all that was necessary to free up the steering. That drained the battery in 4 or 5 hrs as well as the odometer clocked my mileage which does not happen in the first position. There are some charging devices for $35 or so to charge your toad battery. You need a power lead from your tow vehicle of course to power them.

Where did you get that switch? That's what I need. Had our Invisibrake installed which has a trickle charge, but battery on 2012 CRV goes dead on a long day of towing unless I pull that fuse. Have been on the road for two months but will be home next week and want to fix it.

Well, the jury is in. After an 8.5 hour day, but only about 300 miles because of several stops, the battery is dead. The trickle charge was not sufficient to keep up with the time and possibly the stop and go traffic through Sesttke, Tacoma, and Portland.

My current plan is to run it each time we stop then eventually get the larger battery. Fortunately, we have a jump start battery with us to get it going in the morning.
