How do you move a tow dolly around?
Picked up a new ACME tow dolly today. It's beefier and heavier than I expected. Does anyone carry a trailer dolly to move it around. Seems like it would be simpler than trying to man handle it. Just need to make it collapsible to store in car. Any thoughts? Thanks

I don't have a tow dolly, but a trailer dolly seems like a good idea.
I had cousin that was pushing his tow dolly into my brother's garage for some work. 1 of the tires hit something, the tongue got jerked out of my cousin's hand and swung around and broke several bones in his ankle.
Just something as simple as moving a tow dolly can be very traumatic.

My Demco has one of these on the front. Makes it easy to move around

Our Acme is a bit heavy as well... I'm considering a Maxx Tow Trailer Dolly for use at home on our nice steep driveway. Another option is a mounting a handle on the tongue. See Here for an example. I think the Maxx Tow is a better option for one person....

At home I would use the lawn tractor to move one around.
On the road using the toad is easy enough.

Aerocart https://www.worx.com/en-US/Aerocart....e=aerocartLFTV) has place to mount a trailer ball to move trailers such as your dolly. Have seen a few other devices that might work just as well. One hint is to not have the ramps on the dolly when moving by hand.

I also have a Acme tow dolly with surge brakes and it is heavy and awkward to lift and pull/push around. I bought a tow dolly from Harbour freight $50.00 with coupon.put a 2" ball on it. Now it's nice and easy to move around.and I put it in the trunk when traveling with a car on the dolly.

Dolly wheels
2x on the harbour freight folding wheels. Makes moving the dolly easy on paved areas.
The other thing I did was to install a light tow hitch on my toad (Prius) so the toad can move the dolly!

I tried moving the trailer wheel I have for our utility trailer to the tow dolly. Thought it was going to work until I realized the brake line runs under the center beam. Not sure about one of the angled pieces between the ball and wheels. Maybe the Maxx dolly instead. Thanks for the suggestions.

Can you back the dolly like a trailer once the car is off? Does it wander?

Backing it is easy.just watch it with the back up camera,if you go slow it doesn't apply the brakes.

If I just need to move it a little, I pick up the hitch by the chains and grunt. If I need to move it any distance, I either use my lawn tractor or I also have a hitch on the back of the TOAD.
Backing up:
Without a car on it: The dolly is very short wheel base, so it will tend to turn, and turn fast, keep an eye on it while backing.
I found backing up with a car on it is a lot easier with the ACME (non-swivel plate). The Acme doesn't tend to turn as quickly as the swivel plate type dollies, and it will skid the tires.

The HF Trailer Hitch/Dolly connection with 2 wheels to move a light trailer (apx 500 pounds total or less) is OK at best on grass. On a hard level surface, a weight up to 1-2000 pounds may also be OK. I use it for my small outboard (dingy)
For a TT weighing 4-6,000 pounds, I would opt for a powered dolly. I opted for the following ( Model AC-10) - I have no affiliation with the individual or company, but tell him someone from the forum mentioned it and I am sure he could work out a forum deal for you/all in the forum. He CUSTOM makes all sizes 1 at a time specifically for the individual customer's needs/requirements. I will be getting mine in a few weeks after I pick up my new TT.
