How do you stow your break away cable when underway?

As the question asks... How do you secure or hold your break away on your 5er?

I have it just sitting along the hitch now (first pic), I used to hold my cable in the hitch pin on my TT as seen on the second pic to get an idea. I am stopped, just as example.

I don't like the cable loose in the bed of truck, so I bought a coiled breakaway. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I attach it to the 5th wheel hitch, there is no slack between the hook point and switch. No way for it to get caught on something in the bed and activate the brakes.

Do you mean similar to my second pic? or do you mean you actually hook it there and nothing goes to the rails like in my pic?

2nd pic. From the breakaway switch to hitch head. On my AirSafe hitch there is a slot I hook into. I had a Curt like yours before I got an AirSafe and hooked it to the snap pin.

Both my parents and Inlaws, the breakaway has snagged on either hitch component or something in bed and activated the brakes while making a turn. The Inlaws had it happen while pulling into fuel station and locked the brakes and blocked the road till he was able to put the plunger back in the switch.

I run the cable straight to the rear corner tie down point in the truck bed. I haven't ever had it catch (I carry a ton of stuff back there too).

However, I had a friend who tried it and their cable pulled out on one of the first turns.

I loop it onto the release handle. Never had a binding issue. Slide the open end onto the handle.

same, slide the loop on the end of the breakaway cable over the pull handle on the hitch.

Coiled break away cable with a carabiner large enough to hook into a slot in my rear bed rail for the hitch mount. Never liked the standard cable/loop flying around.

Thanks. I'm going to check into getting one of these.

With my 5er hitched, I leave the cable free, making sure there is nothing around it to catch on, which effectively would make it shorter and therefore prone to an unintentional, inadvertent YANK, which could pull you up real quick.

I use the spring pin for the release handle. After hooking up, the pin that drops down through the handle has a spring "bail" that loops over it. Hook the breakaway cable to that bail and then clip it in place. Zip tie a couple of loops in the cable to take up some of the slack. Leave enough slack that it wont pull out on a tight turn. By using this pin it makes sure that I don't forget to hook or unhook it.

Picture #1. Never had a problem and I carry more junk than what is in the picture.

Ditto for me then I put the release handle pin so it holds it from sliding off.

I loop it through the slots / holes on the hitch rail mounted in the bed. Connect it with a carabineer.
