St tires are rated for 65. But I get passed everyday on the freeways by RV delivery drivers delivering new units driving 75-80 or more. Its a wonder new units get to their destinations in one piece. Do RV delivery services even realize that the ST tires are only rated for 65 mph?

PS - For full disclosure these are also made in China.
There are always exceptions. Those are unique tires. Even GY has in past maintained that pumping up a ST tire can increase its speed rating. Kumho make a 14-inch trailer tire with a "Q" speed rating. Right... totally practical... like I'm gonna tow a trailer at 99 MPH.

We shouldn't think it a stretch to suggest that the vast majority of ST tires have published or molded in specifications recommending that speed be limited to 65 MPH. That's not a bad thing. There's more than enough banzai foolishness being generated on the roads today without having 50 or 60 feet of truck and RV inadvertently trying to be the first to Hades' realm. Dunno... maybe it's a cultural thing.

We hit the road and we maintain 55-65 for hrs on end. We get there when we get there.

If you have ST Tires, they are rated for a Maximum speed of 65mph.

The Hercules tires that Herk made ref to are ST tires with a "L" speed rating. These tires are rated for speeds up to 75 MPH.

I typically drive the speed limit or about 5mph faster. But also depends on what the speed limit is and highway conditions. I always try to remind myself that I'm on vacation so no need to rush and stress myself out.

speed

There have been many posts in the forum about tires and speed does come in to play. Like it was mentioned "just because you can does't mean you should". If you keep your speed around 60 plus or minus 3mph you should be safe with your tires and can probably control your rig in a crisis. Let's face it if you need to get somewhere that fast take a plane or a sports car, these campers TT,5TH and MH are not for going anywhere quick.

I used to be in a hurry. Hurry to turn 16 and get a driver's license, hurry to get to 21 and be able to go to a bar, hurry home from work to I could hurry and party somewhere, then I got married and then I got old. Now I'm not in a hurry to slide on a banana peel. Life is short, slow down and enjoy it, before you know it, it will be over.

The industry guidelines for ST type tires is 65 mph max. Now if a manufacturer PUBLISHES some document like Goodyear with the 75 mph max for their Marathons or Sailun with their L speed rated ST235/85R16 LR-G tire that is OK and they are allowed to do that.

BUT just as you can't use say oil filter specs from Ford on a Chevy you can not apply the GY document or the Sailun speed rating to other tires.

How do you think they get from the factory to the dealer?

I tow the posted limit IF the conditions allow for it. If the posted limit is over 60 / 65 then I am 60 to 65 max.. Usually 60. I have a TPMS and keep the pressures right. I have often shook my head at the TT and motorhomes in the hammer lane going 75. I do often wonder to myself how many "China Bombs" are 99% due to not checking pressures and or the high speeds.. Any tire can fail and at any time. But push it beyond its designs and pay the price possibly.
