I run 60 mph while towing my 33' TT. It would appear to me that when you have a pickup towing a large (long) TT or 5th wheel, 65 mph should be a comfortable and maximun safe speed.

As for the speeder, I use to have a sticker on the back of my truck that might be appropriate, it read " Drive like hell, you will get there sooner or later ", just a saying.

60 mph is the max I tow the pup or my duck boat. I am that guy you just cussed at in the right lane going 5 or > mph below the speed limit; I love cruise control when I can use it, should have been an airplane pilot, the left lane is for the runaway romantics.

How fast is too fast
Towing in California? Posted limit is only 55 mph. It was funny when we crossed the line between California and Arizona we overheard truck drivers complaining about how much money they lose because they have to drive so slow in California and in Arizona they could go 70 mph. New to fifth wheeling, we had trouble going too far past the 55-60 we are comfortable with.

I am sure it was mentioned, but ST trailer tires are speed rated at 65 MPH.
Will they "blow" at 66? No, of course not.
Even bursts to 80 would probably be ok in the short term.
However, cumulative damage to the belts will one day result in a surprise.
I would prefer my surprises at slower speeds.

I also came up on a guy yesterday heading south on I-69 north of Indianapolis and the first thing I told the DW was look at that dummy pulling a toy hauler at about 75 mph and as we followed him the rear was all over the road . He was passing everyone and I just couldn't believe how brave or stupid he was , I told the DW I wonder what he had in the garage area and she said why and I said that 1 day that he won't be able to stop it when he needs too . I never did get around him , I didn't feel safe passing him at 80 plus . Please please please be safe out there , after all I have read about tires on here I don't trust even the good ones .

Yeah the faster you go the more stuff will jump around in the camper. For me speed depends on the roads, ambient temps outside, most say it doesn't help but I've had less trouble using nitrogen in my tires. Just my thoughts. We are talking SAFETY ! A bigger safety issue for me and I've been berated on here for it. Pulling with a 1/2 ton on less TRUCK OR SUV. Would any of you call the cops on someone you believe is overweight for their TV! Safety in all things.

I don't know why the folks that see these idiots don't call the state patrol and report them. I have and will continue to do it.

If you are retired, what is your hurry? So it will take you an extra 15 to 20 minutes to get to that day's destination. Yippee ding. You will arrive less stressed. I average 60 mph, get decent gas mileage, less stress and enjoy the view. Slow down, it is not a race.

Hmm....I'm like a couple of others. I drive in the right lane doing 55/60 mph. I also drive secondary roads or interstates. I drive any place I want to. If you don't like how I drive, you take the secondary roads.

I like around 65mph, 55 is to slow RPMs are to low in the torque curve truck works harder climbing hills. I prefer to set cruise control on 65mph put in some good tunes and relax.

Most tires have a speed rating as stated by others and the person towing this 5er was exceeding the tires limitation and his own. One gust of wind or a pot hole and he would be done and probably would take out some innocent responsible driver. Sooner or later his number will come up hopefully no one else will be hurt by his irresponsibility .
