65mph tops, always stay in right lane. Odds are you would catch up with that idiot ( if he doesn't wreck ) at the next stop. I am not in a hurry, if I were, I would not have purchased a tt.

Seems the whole discussion is about tires but what about everything else bouncing around in and on and under the camper, like the TV, fridge, water tank, axles and trailer frames having to absorb the assaults. You hear folks complaining of cabinet doors falling off or other things breaking or coming loose. The force on your knee joints can exceed 1000# when jumping - that's 5 to 6 times the body weight, a trailer is no different especially at higher speeds.

How fast is too fast

Mainly, I run 65-72 on the interstates. The big thing is maintaining maximum air pressure and I will not run a tire that is over three years old. That is by the sidewall code and not from when I had them installed. The Towmax tires that came on my trailer, I ran one year and switched to a Maxxis. I have been very fortunate and have never had a tire issue.

Most of the ones who remark about there china tires blowing are driving more that 65mph. And the ones who are talking about severe damage are driving like that example. They are all just looking for a place to blow or wreck. They also will never admit to there wrong doings.

That's up to you at that weight not a problem. But I don't think you are the norm. But my point is there are many that are just at the load limit and with a little more weight there over. You put more weight on a truck than should be YOU WILL NOT STOP IT VERY FAST. For me the only thing I have that small is my motorcycle trailer. I've had to many people tell me it doesn't matter. I can say if I was in a wreck with someone that I think is overloaded I would check it out and if so would sue their ass off for Negligence.

It's not a truck or about speed as much as it should be about SAFETY.

60-65 for us

So how fast is too fast when towing? I do around 60 or so while towing. (I wasn't towing)
Like most, 60-65, or the posted speed limit if lower, works for us. We have only witnessed a couple of TT/5th wheel wrecks, one off the side of the road, the other in the median. It is a sad, sobering experience to see a fellow camper's possessions scattered across the landscape because of an accident. So many things can go wrong in a split second, and if/when it does, I'd prefer it to be at as low a speed as possible. 75-80+ seems too fast for this old man, pulling anything or not.

Speed Speed Speed

Everyone that says they drive 65 mph and above justify it through excuses, tire speed? Really! Tire rating has nothing to do with common sense. The definition of an accident is an unplanned occurrence. If you planned it, most likely you wouldn't show up. An RV is not your passenger car. It requires different skills. Stopping distance is longer because the RV is pushing the power unit. Wake up to the fact you need to be in the right lane driving at a reasonable speed for your combination of vehicles. That is why truck drivers are held to different standards and in most States are to the right and slower maximum speed.

We go about 60-63 mph. This weekend traveling down I-91 south through Hartford, we were passed by numerous MH and TT, one guy's TT was swaying back and forth so bad, we gladly let them pass. Stay in the right lane and stay safe.

LOL, that's were I saw this guy, Rolling on 91 right outside of Hartford. I see it all the time up here, its insane how some of these guys drive out there while towing. Though tow a TT a few times a year and think they're going to break and land speed record while towing a TT.

Yes! To all these comments. He/she is endangering everyone out there with them. Evidence along the highway of RV accidents is a tragic reminder that speed kills.

I run between 60-65 that is where I get my best gas milage. Too many things can wrong and happen to fast when you are going that fast.

Had a guy pull past me this weekend around 85mph he got off at a exit, then 1.5 hrs later as I was pulling into the campground here he is sitting at the registration office. I was like WTH. I talked him, he took back roads ran up to 90 .I told that guy his tires are only rated to 65 and he thought they were rated at 85.. lol

I hold it at about 65. Occasionally get up to 70 while passing a slower semi or vehicle. After the pass I back it back down to 65. I do check air pressure on the trailer tires before each trip. At 65 I sometimes get passed by pick-ups and trailers that leave me in the dust. That's fine, I have more time then money....

Driving 70 instead of 60 gets you there 20 minutes early on a two hour trip. Is it worth the risk to your rig, your passengers and others on the road. I think not. Slow down and enjoy the scenery Besides 60 mph is safer when you are texting. LOL.
