We tow our Rockwood 8281ss 5th wheel with a Toyota Tundra with the 5.7 v-8 and tow package. It is rated to tow 9,900. So far so good, truck squats a bit and we may upgrade back suspension, but not yet.

X2 f1100turbo, mine have been maintenance free for 17 yrs (same bags & compressor on 3 different trucks).
I guess pushing a button to increase or decrease the air is just too arduous for some folks.

I'm currently towing my 2012 Prime Time 290 RLT with a 2011 Ford F150 with Ecoboost. Not sure I would trying towing this 5th wheel with any other 1/2 ton truck, since the hitch weight is over 1,000 lbs. Ford claims you can now handle over 1800 lbs. in the bed, which gives you the safety of handling that hitch. The Ecoboost engine has been excellent in towing the trailer down the hwy. Gas mileage has been great averaging 12.5 while towing and 18.5 in the city when unhitched.

You like that word: arduous I'm glad that your air bags are free of problems. I expect most are, however, I was just pointing out the simplicity of the Timbren install and ongoing usage. As I said, I read on some post earlier that someone had pin hole problems with air bags. They tend to be more expensive, higher level of difficulty to install and potential for damage. Most people use air bags from my observation and I was throwing out an alternative that is just as effective. There was no intention on my part to question anyone's decision on what product they choose. As an FYI, I paid $195 for my Timbrens and I installed them in less that 1/2 hour. I am , by no means, mechanically inclined. In fact, I'm getting callouses on my fingers by typing so much.

STAY AWAY from air bags!!! Timbrens are the way to go. 45 min. to install, lifetime warranty.Need I say more.

Had a set of air bags on the front of an F150 I used to plow with.They lasted one winter and got a hole chafed in one,that is why I went with the Timbrens for the rear of the Dodge.

Going to weigh my 2010 Ram and new 5th wheel tomorrow cuz until that's done, numbers are all speculation.
So you all know, I traded in the Shasta Revere 21 FBS for a (drum roll.....) Jayco Eagle
superlite HT (half ton towable.... Yea, yeah) 23.5 5th wheel. Not a Forest River owner anymore but love this forum the best so unless I get kicked out.... I'm here to stay

I tow our wildcat 28bh with my 08 Ram 1500. It has the Hemi and the 20" wheels. I put ride-rites on it and they're great. I don't have the compressor so I air them up after I hitch up and if I'm not going to pull for a while I let them down. If that was too much work I'd sell the whole works, buy a car and stay in hotels. I'm pretty much ready to hit the road in 10 minutes having to do this stuff. BTW, I have to do a few full throttle assaults on the road during the winter to get home and I have yet to hurt a bag or a line.

Hi. I, too, have the F-150 Ecoboost Supercrew. Pull an 8500# 5th wheel no problem. But, are you pulling with 150 or F250? I'm confused. Thanks. Bob.

How is the ride with these? I don't quite understand how they work. Seems like it would be like hitting your bump stops all the time.

Been to Nova Scotia and back from Ontario with 5th wheel. Nice easy tow. I don-'t know about big mountains but the hills in New Brunswick can be a good size and no problem going up or down them. Didn't calculate gas mileage but seemed like we didn't use as much gas as before ( that's as precise Ican get on gas mileage, since I didn't check with TT either.) only problem is levelling the 5th wheel and axles are already flipped. Would have to add spacers, not sure I want to do that so might take the spacer out from the Timbrens and improve on the levelling a bit.
Towing this on the highway, felt like just driving a truck.(i don't do the driving but It felt a lot more stable and forgot it was behind us. the previous TT had no sway but I could not relax with it beind us. The truck was not struggling but I could feel it a bit in wind and when big trucks passed. Nothing like that with 5th wheel.
Happy. As long as truck shows no signs of fatigue or excessive wear from towing, I'll keep it.
