Husky or Equal-i-zer

Just ordered a new TT and am starting my research on WD hitches. My RV dealer carries the Husky Center Line and the Equil-i-zer. Should I go with one of his or think about another? Blue Ox etc.

My Equil-I-zer hooks up quickly, provides a level ride with no sway problems. Highly recommended.

I've use a Equalizer on two trailers I've had (Jayco Eagle & Keystone Cougar HC). Too many adjustments with the Equalizer. Plus one time going down the highway I had a trucker motion me that there was trouble. I pulled over and one of the torgue bars had flipped over the L Bracket and was sticking straight out. Twice I had Equalizer replace the L brackets because they wear over time. Finally its the noisiest hitch I ever heard.
Next hitch with be a Blue Ox Pro. Here's the specs and a video:

A friend has this and it's so much easier to hook up than my Equalizer.

I have a Husky (that I need to sell, btw) and I really liked it. Never felt any sway, even in a wind storm in KS.

Is the Pro Pride 3P worth the money? I got the engineering on those and it makes a lot of sense. I don't mind the price tag if they are good as claimed. Any experiences to share? Thanks!

Jim developed two top-of-the-line hitches for certain in his years!!!

However, IMO they have their place but are certainly not needed for every combination of TV and TT. Not at all - think belt, suspenders, and velcro. Remember, Jim's focus was sway control, and there are many ways to skin that.

To the OP, I recommend a properly installed and adjusted Equal-i-zer. Yep, I completely agree that it is a noisy hitch, but you rarely hear it within the TV. I'm running the same Equal-i-zer that I have been for 15 years now on the third trailer! I have replaced the L-pins twice and the bolts for the brackets with each swap to the new trailer. Otherwise, it's only seen regular maintenance of cleaning, lubing, and painting! I have set mine up for each loaded camper using the local CAT scale and the TV packed for camping. Once set, no adjustment necessary unless you change how you load your gear or change the TV.

Having owned both a husky center line (original design) and a 4 point Equalizer i will say the Equalizer is a better, simpler product that does the job for my combo. I had noting but headaches with the center-line including the near failure of some critical components. Their customer service was outstanding however, but after the 3rd issue i had to make a change. It seems that they may have abandoned the centeline as a whole and are now promoting the center line T/S. It looks very much like the equlizer

It possibly could have been my setup, but I dont think that was the case. With that said, even if the center line had given me zero issues i like the equalizer better. Its lighter, you dont need to be in perfect alignment to hook/un hook the bars (this was the #1 deal for me espeically in small sites) and it just works. The center line claimed that it was a anti sway, but you had to induce sway for the cams and springs to actually keep the trailer in line. Even though the equalizer is not technically an anti sway (like pro pride or hensley) it does keep constant tension to greatly reduce sway. I like how it tows 1000x's better.

Im using a Husky pullin that big biscuit down there in my signature and it works great. The sway control was a blessing in the windy SR46 area on the way home sunday.

The Equalizer is not difficult to use and works as good as any friction based system out there. Better than most. Plus it's made in the US. I highly recommend it if going friction based. With that being said, I now run a ProPride and love it. Completely different animal. You do not get trailer induced sway at a pivot point, but you will get a push of the entire rig together in windy conditions. MUCH less fatigue with this system. I would definitely buy one again.

love my Equal-i-zer! easy to use and install.
Hensley and Propride are great hitches but IMHO, worth the way extra money when you have a marginal tow vehicle.
if you have a well-matched combo, something like the Equal-i-zer will work great and there's no need to spend 3-4x the money.

I have a centerline and have been very happy with the sway control. I only used it a couple times and had some components fail. Their customer service was excellent and sent me all new spring bars, trunions and pins. They told me they had some issues with an early model and they think my dealer had this one in stock for a long time. If you go with the centerilne find out how long the dealer has had it.

I got mine in October so I haven't had a chance to tow with the new components.

I did have one of the 1st models but I updated the heads, trunions, pins and bars, and brackets (all free of charge by husky) and the problems persisted. I nearly lost one of the bars traveling due to the pins sheering off. Keep an eye on those pins and replace at the first sign of fatigue.

I purchased a blue OX. Haven't had a chance to use but my reach let me to believe it should work great. BUT will let you know if it doesn't. Equalizer you can hear coming from a long way off.

I added Sway Bracket Jackets to my Equal-i-zer and quieted it right down.

Equalizer is working great for me. Noisy yes, but if you hear it, you know its all still intact. My neighbor has one of the chain tension types, lost a bar once on the way home. For the price, made in USA, and ease of use, EQ is the way to go.

X2 on the 4 point Equalizer with the jackets. Greatly reduced the noise. I also keep it lubricated at the pivot with no sway issues. It is much easier than the hanging chain type I used for 15 years. I may have it up for sale soon if we trade for a Class C.
