I need a hitch !

Ok ladies and gents I need a hitch, since I have had motorhomes ,I am a rookie on 5th wheel hitches I need a little help.
Just purchased a 2014 Dynamax Trilogy 3650RL with a GVWR of 17,500 and I will be towing it with a 2012 Dodge Ram 3500 DRW 4X4 8 ft bed with the Cummins diesel ..... a little help from the experienced would be a Great help in my decision ,

I have the Curt 20K hitch. Mine's a slider which you won't need, but it's been a great hitch. No worries and simple enough to use.

Congrats on the new digs!

B&W users are cult-like and avidly wild about their hitches.

I like the B&W also but the BW3000 companion only has a 18,000lb cap and the BW3300 has a 20,000 lb cap, but a funky attachment system and I am unsure about it working on my Dodge, or am I missing something?

With a GVWR of 17,500 - you'll be fine with the companion 3000 at 18,000 pounds. The other one is only if you have the factory prep package for your truck and even then, is it only Fords or do Dodges use the same setup? The B&W people are VERY responsive to calls and emails. I'd suggest you call them to get the 411.

ependydad the 3000 might be ok but it is very close to the max of the hitch ,I would like to have a little more headroom to work with .am I wrong with this thinking? Or am I just worrying about it too much ?

dsrace, our fiver has the Trailair air ride pin box on it so would I need to have an Air ride hitch ? I'm a rookie at this stuff since we are coming to a 5th wheel from a class A motorhome or maybe I should consider the level 2 cushion ride hitch ?

In my opinion, the B&W stuff is so well built that I'd use it right up to its published limits.

The air hitches sure are nice, though! I want to compensate and get an air pin (TrailAir with TriGlide for me) when I save up my pennies.

a good friend of mine has a 14k lb fifth and just added the lippert tri glide pin box, he couldn't be happier! he would've gone with the air ride hitch but he didn't know about them and had just bought a brand new $800 hitch so this was the next best thing. his nephew has new fifth and it came with the lippert pin that just has the rubber block to aid in chucking I guess and he bought a new version of his old. he said he could tell a diff between rigid and what he has now and is thinking about swapping it out to the tri glide now too. I only bought the air ride hitch because no matter if I trade up th'ers or mine is totaled the hitch stays in the truck and fits all th'ers where the tri glide only fit my lippert 1621 box and one other frame on the list so that would be difficult to transfer unless I bought the same thing. I got lucky and bought this hitch off a member on this site that wasn't having any luck selling it for some reason but it was only 1 year old and looks brand new still but he sold it to me for $1300 shipped so couldn't pass that up but had I not stumbled across that I would've bought the Omni 20k. there are several used ones on ebay from time to time from those that are trading out to class a or c coach's.

well if you are anywhere near central florida I have an excellent condition reese 24k signature to sell, the only thing is you either have to put under the bed rails or buy an adapter for std. rails.

you know I have seen a few with both but no don't waste your money on an air ride hitch if your happy with the trailair although the tri glide is far far superior over the basic trailair though. I went air hitch because it stays with the truck and works with all fiver's where the air pin box's only with certain frames so swapping it to the next fiver if you change or step up would be hard unless its the same frame under the new one. you can look online and see which frames your will interchange with. I have an 2011 wp 295 fifth th'er myself and it has a lipper 1621 pin box which only interchanges with 1 other frame.

that is a nice looking unit and pretty stout on weight. does it squat your truck a little or did you bag the rear?

sorry I should've included that but I was asking you. I went and looked at a pic of one like your unit and saw the specs on it. I was just wondering because my f350 has 84k miles on it and 1800 lb pin weight squatted mine about 4 to 5 " w/o bags. not sure why but my dually didn't come factory with over load springs.

My truck squats about 2 1/2" with 2,300 pounds of pin weight (scaled). By design, the truck normally sits with the rear higher than the front (or so it looks that way), so when it squats, it looks more level.

The camper's overall weight is just under 14,000 pounds (again, scaled). The truck loaded with us and with pin weight comes in a about 11,500 which is only 800 pounds under GVWR (starting with 4,300 pounds of payload). I was surprised to see that we come that "close". That was without firewood and the truck bed mostly empty.

I haven't gotten air bags as I think I'd like to go to an air pin first- TrailAir with TriGlide is what I've picked. Just need to save a few Benjamins first. I do definitely feel an up/down motion in the cab and occasionally front/back pulling a touch (not often). I guess that's what "chucking" is. I'm hopeful that the air pin will isolate some of that.
