I so want to go camping
A couple of weeks back I posted that someone had run a red light and hit my truck broadside causing significant damage. At that time, Feb.23, I had three (3) camping trips booked. One would have been this weekend at High Falls State Park, GA. I called and talked to a real nice lady who allowed me to change the camping dates with no charges due to the accident.
Another trip is scheduled for Memorial Day weekend and the body shop says that they cannot guarantee that my truck will even be ready by then. Last Friday I paid a visit to the shop and asked that they give me a better explanation as to why the repairs are taking so long. The manager told me that he would show me one reason why. There is a cable that got broken that goes from the left front brake caliper's ABS system back to the ABS computer. A $38-$45 part. Georgia law state's that they are not allowed to use used parts on my trucks repair as it is less than five (5) years old, a 2014 GMC Sierra. This particular cable is back ordered from GM Parts Division. They assured me that they had checked with five (5) other suppliers and that the part is back ordered from them also. I personally checked with five (5) local auto parts houses and got the same story, back ordered. It seems that there is only one manufacturer and they are running wide open just to keep the new vehicle industry supplied. I told the shop manager to go find that part on a recent totaled out Sierra in a salvage yard and put the darned thing on. He stated that he would have to contact the other insurance company who is paying the bill and ask for permission to do that. IF they will allow this then I can get a new one put on within twelve months of them handing over the keys to my truck.
Another problem is the left front fancy rim which is damaged bad. Yep, not available from GMPD and none are available from the reman rim people. Crap, put a steel rim on there until they can find the proper rim. GMPD did happen to have the two (2) new "A" frames that were broken. Then there is the busted tire. The replacement tire must be new, per insurance rules and the tire is available from a local tire store but --the two back tires have serious flat spots on them from sliding approximately forty-five (45) feet diagonally. Insurance will not replace them if they are holding air. My attorney says just get the truck back, have all new tires put on the truck and we will sue for the price of the tires.
All of this is BS to me, I just want my truck back so we can go camping. I have one trip planned in mid-July so I'm hoping they can get the truck back by then at least. I will have to file suit against the other insurance company to pay for the tires, pay for my medical bills, pay for each day of truck payments, each day of insurance, and I'm thinking of going for pain and suffering. The pain and suffering of not being able to go camping due to my truck being damaged. These insurance laws can certainly make me ill.
