Injector pump self destruct

I just got the word from my mechanic that my injector pump is sending metal fragments through my fuel system. This resulted in me replacing a fuel rail sensor and one injector (so far). To replace the pump requires removal of the cab and all that entails. I then did an internet search and found a class action suit against ford in regards to the CP4 fuel injection pump. That pump is installed on 6.7L diesels 2011 - present.

I want to buy a replacement truck (instead of the huge repair bill).

The year of F350 I bought was the highest rated in reliability (by consumers reports) of all years Ram, Ford, Chevy, GMC.

Does anyone have any other realistic 5th wheel tow option other than Ram, Ford, Chevy, GMC?

I am not sure of your payload requirements with your truck, but as far as I know other than going to freight liner international and a 2.5 ton. Nissan and Toyota are the only other full-size trucks

There's an article in the May 2019 Trailer Life regarding replacing the CP4 with a CP3. About $3500. Might be cheaper than a new truck.

Check the Dieselsite.com. I believe they sell a filter kit to catch all those metal fragments. If that's all you have replaced your lucky. What year is your truck? Is it still under warranty?

Changing from a CP4 to a CP3 is a mod many diesel shops do, but that's not where you are right now. I've been lead to believe that once your CP4 sends fragments in there, you're going to wind up replacing ALL of the fuel components............ same say 8 to 10 grand. During that repair, they can put in a CP3 pump, which is more reliable. If you've got an older diesel, and AirDog will help stave off a pump failure. Sorry to hear you've had this happen.

In the new Duramax, that's true. They went from Bosch to Denso fuel systems, using a lift pump. Ford and Ram, I don't know.

GM changed to the Denso fuel system in 2017 with the L5P Duramax engine. The 2011-2016 Duramax had the CP4.

To the OP, I am not very familiar with Ford so not sure, but in the GM when this happens it is a huge bill. There is no way to clean the metal from the fuel rails. Basically requires replacing CP4, all 8 injectors, both fuel rails, and all other lines. Even the fuel tank has to be cleaned out. These failures don't happen often, but when they do they cost huge $$. I would insist on a thorough warranty if they try to just replace a few pieces. Again, that might be the normal repair on Ford so I could be wrong. Check with a Ford dealer, they will likely have a TSB that gives detailed repair instructions. Insist that your shop follow the Ford specs.

Yes but I heard it's supposed to be a newer version, I've seen CP4.2 written somewhere so take that as a grain of salt. It does have some Ram fans concerned.

From what little I read, the 4.2 is supposed to be more robust. I think if I still had my 2014 Denali, I'd be putting an AirDog on it ASAP. Lots of CP4 pumps go the distance, but there are way too many failures out there to not be proactive.
