You won't have 3850 payload.. it will be about 3,100 payload. Then add your family, hitch and any other gear in the truck. Then take your pinweight and add a few hundred more to that since you will have gear in the 5th basement and front room.

If you are going to have your dealer do all the services, I'd recommend buying the maintenance plan. It is cheaper then paying for each service separately and my contact will sell them for $100 over cost.

Why the short payload when Ford says 3850? The trailer I am looking at is 2000 hitch and 9980 dry weight. The FDW and I and some gear we do not carry much but once I get the F350 I have less to worry about then my F150 which would be at max Payload and little wiggle on towing max.

3100 may be a little low. My 2016 F350 Lariat has a payload of 3573 lbs. a platinum may be slightly less because it has a few bells and whistles my Lariat does not, but it's still an awesome truck. You are correct about subtracting passengers and gear from the payload. Also back out the weight of tools and whatever hitch you choose, which is another reason I like the B&W turnoverball in the truck, and a Goosebox on the fiver. Solves a lot of issues.
You will really enjoy the truck.
With 30,000 miles on it, you have 6,000 miles of bumper to bumper remaining. You might ask the dealer to pull the maintenance records before committing. Just to see if anything has happened. Not 100% but still good info.
The def is no big deal as long as no one has put def in the diesel tank. I buy my def at Sams Club where it is a little over $10 per 2.5 gal. The truck will use a lot more def when towing. The DIC will give you a warning when there is 800 miles worth of def remaining. Ford really should have a gauge showing def levels.
Good luck

I bought a 2012 F-250 with a 6.7 3 years ago. I usually get about 13 - 14 around town and 16 - 17 running at about 65mph. I have had a few 20mpg trips on stock wheels and tires but ended up switching to something snowflake rated and a bit wider since the stock Michelins were horrible in the snow here.

I was also going to mention anyone with a newer truck should really look into an Edge Insight. They are just monitors and plug into the OBD II port and show whatever sensors you want to see. Best $300 I have spent on my truck.

Yea, all RAM MPG dash readouts lie also. I calculated it once and it's about .5 mpg less than the readout. Since the readout is higher, I choose to go with that, ha.

Yes, I have one also. Love the info. I wish they'd do away with the pith and roll on every screen. No sure what's useful about that. My screen could be brighter but the thing reads every PDI in the computer.

Payload for every configuration is different, my 2014 f350 is 3451

Don't believe any payload or " dry" weights of either the truck or tailer.

Weigh them yourself. You will find, everything weighs more than they say.

The same one I had and traded it after 8 months due to problems. The pin weight is way off and it just wasn't me I found two others. You will have more than enough truck with the F350 to handle the weight. Check out below and posted the weights.
We like the floor plan except it was backwards, the only window that looks out the passenger side is in the hallway or bedroom. I missed being able to look out over our campsite and not the neighbors.
The mattress is terrible like most of of them but it is standard queen and can easily be replace without going to RV mattress.
IF you have any questions on the model let me know.

Mine said 4150 and I had the dealer put in the contract that if it wasn't at least 3750 I could refuse the truck and get my deposit back. When the truck arrived from the other dealer the yellow door tag said 3744 and those 6 pounds got me a set of free bed steps LOL...

I was looking at a Keystone Montana High Country but the Crusader's seem to be a better price point for me, as I refuse to buy new again, a total waste of $. I would rather find a good quality used RV and do any mods or repairs myself. That being said I was looking at a 2014-2015 used one

Be prepared for a shock when you check your oil level the first time.... It will be BLACK The only time it has that nice honey color is when you pour it in. It will turn nasty black within a very short time.

I've got about 35K on my truck now and it has not used a teaspoon of oil but it sure looks awful. Tailpipe is sure nice and clean though.

You will enjoy your diesel. Lots of grunt. I can't remember anyone posting regrets for buying one.

Happy Camping

Not sure what the difference would be, mines a fx4. As far as oil being black shortly after changing, yes it will be, anything with egr is gonna do that, just the nature of the beast

Having an EGR has nothing to do with it. It's because it's diesel.

My pre EGR oil would run as clean as a gas engine.
