You can thank ultra low sulfur fuel for that.
Whether it's a Cummins, International (6.9 and 7.3 idi turbo & non-turbo, 7.3 di, 6.0), Isuzu, Detroit, Cat, JohnDeere, VW/Audi, ect. that I've owned or work on, the oil ends up black. It may take a little longer nowadays for some thanks to ultra low sulfur. Alot of the DI diesels, even after oil is drained, still have a few quarts of old black oil in the high pressure system so upon startup it mixes with new oil turning it black.
Your Kenworth holds probably as many as 4 times as much oil so of course it will take longer to appear black. Also if you're running a by-pass filter it will help.
As a side note, if the oil wasn't black I'd be more concerned because it's job, among others, is to carry contamination to the filter(s).
To wrap it up it makes no difference EGR or not and black diesel oil is no indication of a problem, it's a way of a diesel's life.

How many gallons of oil does that Cat engine take at oil change?

Don't follow Ford's schedule for cleaning the egr, I do mine every oil change and replace the O rings and gasket every other time.

Sulfur is one of the contaminants of oil via piston ring blowby during combustion.
Majority of the engines I listed above do not have EGR systems at all and always had black oil. EGR systems cycle and sample exhaust back into the intake only when certain parameters are meant. They are more off then on. They are not what dirties oil. It's been happening since the start.

Sorry 05 crew I didn't get your whole post before I replied. No bypass on the kW, I won't run synthetic in semi so no reason to, dirty oil to me is a sign of a poorly running/tuned engine, egr makes oil dirtier, I didn't think anyone would disagree with that. I got writers cramp.

Roughly what can you expect to pay for an F350 SCREW SB. I went to a dealer today the MSRP was $70K they gave me $3500 in rebates and they offered me a final price of $63 on a Platinum with the 8 foot bed. Needless to say I did not think it was a good enough deal so I walked. I figure in a $70 MSRP I should be able to get it for $58 at least? I am going to look at a GMC 2500HD tomorrow, we will see but I am swaying toward the Ford.

I'm a " buy used, repair myself" type guy so I would not pay that. But, you have a price to beat now so I'd try other Ford dealers too and see what kind of deal they offer. I hope you told the salesman your going to look at a GM tomorrow. If he has your phone number I'd think he will be calling.

Typer's cramp. No problem. Diesels been apart of my whole life starting as a child with my dad when he was an OTR owner/operator. From equipment to trucks I've worked on alot and had the pleasure of owning some.
The first impression I got from earlier posts was EGR is the reason diesel oil gets black. It's simply not the case, proven by earlier non-EGR diesels. I like to try to educate and separate fact from lore.
No harm, keep on truckin!

I paid 62 for mine but that was a couple years ago. Interesting enough me and the wife were driving through the local dealer the other day and they had a f350 platinum srw for 69k and an f350 lariat dually for 68k.

He knows bc my Fiancé is good friends with the GMC General MGR. so they rough quoted me for a 2500 HD SLE Loaded with Duramax $53 for a white SCREW SB AWD
I am also thinking hard about a 2015 F350 Lariat with all the bells and whistles has 32K with 6.7 and I can easily get that for under $50 so I may go that way as I baby everything and will have Ford do all the maintenance. It has a 100% clean carfax

Under 50? Is that your price? I might have to take a ride north.

It's hard to get many rebates this time of year.
Honestly you could probably get a new gmc denali for mid to upper $50s if you look around. I did and it's a 3500 4wd dually.
Best I've seen on nicer diesels(not base or work trucks) about the best you are going to get is about $8-10k off msrp but its probably not going to be till late summer or until a new body style comes out for prices to get there.
I've always been a gm guy, but i looked at f350 platinums and king ranches just to keep an open mind, but they couldn't compare to the denali for price, features and such.
