5 Least Reliable Cars and Trucks You Can Buy | Motor Guides

I personally think they are all about equal, it's just a matter of how you take care of it.
I seen that but it doesn't show much detail and doesn't jive with all the known source data. (Except the Fiesta and fiat has been pretty bad on alot of them)
Funny thing is on some sites they show reliability issues of get this.....the nav screen going black or something similar.
In my opinion that's just a glitch. Reliability is what keeps something from going down the road.

And yes i agree, some of the stuff is operator error stuff, or how ones maintained, But.....when something has been a consistent problem for years or decades (ie. chrysler transmissions or fords 6.0 engines, or gm ignitions in a few models) you cant blame all the operators for those failures.

Most of the problems with the Ford 6.0 are caused by ford the same Navistar engine in an international doesn't have the same problems. Motorcraft Gold is the worst thing you can do to a 6.0 followed by dumping crankcase gas into the turbo charger. And why in the world would you put ford focus alternator on an F350. Sorry for the rant but I have fixed all these problems and now have a super truck

I trade a 13 LTZ for my current RAM. Very pleased with the RAM which is now 2 years old. I find the fit and finish better with the ram and the Garmin based GPS is actually usable. The Chevy GPS was worthless IMO. But I'd own any of the three. My biggest problem with GM is the fact that the taxpayers are still paying for their bailout and GM has been forgiven of their debt by Obama. The bond holder got screwed, the unions won. But that's the world we live in.

Agreed, almost 100%...Motorcraft Gold indeed has silicates that might clog the oil cooler but Ford purists will disagree. Engine casting sand is the main culprit. Use an aftermarket coolant filter and that will help 110%. My 6 liter has had a lot of work done to make it more reliable and performance is outstanding. It's the last of the Powerstrokes you can actually work on yourself without expensive computer equipment. Navistar VT265's had less HP and torque than Ford's 6.0. There was no towing or hauling 'Arms race' with school buses where Navistars mainly resided. Couple that with Ford's technicians lack of knowledge on this new design after Ford rushed it to market (first diesel with pollution controls). It was the perfect storm for a good diesel engine to get such a bad reputation. Now, a Focus alternator on an F 350??...Ughhhh.

The Ford Gold gets a bad rep too because of the chain of events. The oil cooler gets clogged with casting sand which then restricts the flow of coolant to the EGR cooler, which then boils off the little bit of flowing coolant making the silicate drop out to clog the system more. Then the EGR cooler cracks internally, bleeding off coolant right into the intake system. Water in the combustion chamber turns to steam , creating pressures that the head gaskets can't stand and they let go. It's like a snowball effect.

Now with a little monitoring you can see this problem occuring and correct it without any major ill effects. Also if you can disabling the EGR system helps too.

The alternator comment about being from a Focus is because on a single alternator 6.0 diesel they came stock with a 110amp underpowered alternator. The alternator is an easy upgrade swap for a 140amp or more. This is well documented on Ford diesel forums.

I know there's a lot of people on here that never owned or understood a 6.0l will disagree but these trucks are the best deal going right now if you educate yourself a bit. Many out there have really low miles because the owners were scared into parking them and only using them for towing the camper or boat a few times a year out of fear it will self destruct. A coolant filter system, an EGR cooler eliminator kit or shut the EGR solinoid off with a programmer, and a ScanGaugeII to monitor oil/coolant temp deltas is all you need to do to start. I'd also update the common STC fitting (05-07) and oil feed tubes/ dummy plugs that can leak.
So as you can see the 6.0 works for me at over 168,000 miles strong.

Not knowing ANYTHING about the 6.0... I can see why they Park them.. You buy a 60,000 truck (I know they are cheaper now used) it has all these issues. Then the make it better you need to make all these upgrades. If you buy it used it is a great truck... After you make all these upgrades.

I am very handy and mechanically inclined, I would not even think of doing all of this. If it buy something like a truck of this type I want it to work.not need me to invest more and more money into it to get what ford should have gotten right from the start!

It's simple math really. The couple of bucks spent saves thousands. I'll use mine for example. I bought mine from a dealer for $16,000 when they were asking originally 22. A comparable used Dodge at the time was selling for in the 30's +. I brought the truck home and went through and replaced the above mentioned. Even adding the ScangaugeII I spent around 800. These updated parts that correct the original faults are simple to replace on the weekend by anyone able to pull on a wrench. Now I have an affordable reliable tow rig that travels the east coast all year.
I get it, it's not for everyone. Too many people that graduate from a gasser to diesel expect to jump in it and go like they do with their Honda and that's not good for any diesel. Just like letting them sit all winter and then wonder why it won't build boost. When that happens, for some it's easier to run to the dealer for a warranty claim. Of course you won't have that with a 6.0. Like I said it's not for everyone but for many it works beautifully. And I don't have the second mortgage payment either.

My issue is Ailey that it is used as a daily driver and tow vehicle so if I am going to have one vehicle I don't mind spending a little more to drive something from New

Loving my 2016 F350 Super Crew Short Box King Ranch PowerStroke

Barely broken in and keeping it gentle but much better fuel economy at 65-70 then 50-60, here is what I have from a day of local and highway driving about a 50/50 split

Much better then my F150 EB, can't wait to tow the Roo with it, just hope I remember the Roo is connected to it, this rig has oodles of HP and Torque

There's a reason that's called the lie-ometer. Fill the tank, reset trip, run it low on fuel, then refill it. Record total miles and devide that by the gallons of fuel. Let us know what you get.
That truck won't even be working with a Roo behind. You'll be happy I'm sure.

Averaging 18.-19.0 with combo of city highway after two full tanks of fuel and now I am at 1500 miles but I am pretty light in the pedal. I was not getting much better on my 2014 F150 with the 3.5EB so I am happy.
