Is an inch worth it

From time to time my truck and 5er chuck I have noticed that the dealer installed b&w is about 6 “ behind axle looks like I can move hitch up 2” max. My question is would there be a noticeable difference or advantage. For that small of a move I read optimum position in over axle

What is your tow vehicle?

6" behind the axle is pretty far. It should be directly over the axle. I'd move it the 2" forward if you can, but that won't do anything for the 'chucking'. Now if you're bouncing and not really chucking, then moving the hitch forward may help that a little.

Send us a picture of your truck and hitch setup so we can better see your situation.

What is 6" behind the axle?
The hitch pin connection or some other part of the hitch?

As mentioned, pictures of your set-up would help.

Most installations call for the hitch pin to be directly over the axle, to 2" ahead of the axle.

Post your tow vehicle and R/V specs too.
I see no signature and nothing in your profile telling us what you have.
Always good to provide as much information as possible when asking for help.

I don't own a B&W so maybe those who do will chime in. Something doesn't look correct with the orientation of the hitch/arms/plate. Is one of the components installed backwards? See how the plate attaching arms lean towards the FRONT of the truck in the photos below.... yours go rearward???

Again, I don't own one but something is awfully odd about yours.
Does it have a slide option? Is it in the rearward slide position?

See images below...

B&W has adjustment within where it is mounted to the truck. You can adjust 3 inches up or down within the mounting and move it forward or back 6 inches within the mount.

Hope this helps...

Your upright arms are either backwards or need to be moved forward, or BOTH.
Ideally the pin should be 2" in front of the axle tube's centerline on your 8' bed truck. This properly distributes some weight to the front axle for a smoother ride.

Thanks for the input guess I will be moving them and flipping them I was just wondering if that inch or two would be worth it not that “ professionals” would put the arms backwards but after seeing pics and then YouTube videos and instructions posted here I do

I had the exact hitch.

On my setup, the hold down bolt on the base was to the back end the truck, not to the front as in your photo. The head arms were also were closer to the front end of the truck than to back of the end of the truck. This setup was based on the installation instruction.

I think if you were to remove the head, turn the base 180* around, then put the head back on, I think that the kingpin will then be atop the axle to 2” in front of the axle as it should.

The manuals for the hitch can be found here:

I thought about that haven’t gotten the instructions out yet but in either the E trailer video or the other video also from a reputable source they said the warning sticker and hold down bolt went to the front second video said for the new dodge hold down bolt to the back

Maybe it's me or the picture but the hitch head doesn't look square to frame?

Had some spare time while sun was still out so I took twenty minutes flipped arms and moved up one hole. Didn’t have trl but height I believe was good but I will check now that I know dealership just threw together I felt like I always had more than enough room when turning or backing but I will be aware of that as well here are the before and after again thank you according to the chart provided I guess I got about 4 inches at a minimum Click image for larger version

You're getting closer but it looks like you need to put it forward more, like one of the previous posted pics.

Ok I was going to say that wasn’t an option no more holes left which is true but I know I saw in a video that the “ receiver” has to be flipped but video mentions only dodge as well as another set of instructions I found on line while the 2013 dodge was only truck referenced I guess it didn’t say other trucks as well found a article for 2015 they also put in same position as what I assume mine is in reading the other instructions added a reverence to the position 2 in the above referenced chart. So now I guess if position two is possible I would feel the need to measure as I would lose 8 inches of clearance between cab and cap plus between the back of bed and trl From where I started knew I had plenty of room moving up 4 inches going out in two weeks I will see how she does ( she normally does real well only seemed to be certain roads or conditions with the chucking ) under last set up. I will also measure the clearance in current setting and see if I am comfortable moving up more more I guess I could split difference and towards the cab only 2 inches. Thank you for noticing if I find time I might call B&W.

Is an inch worth it

I hooked up today I didn’t measure tried to get inspected and tanks dumped before we head to air show in Abilene this weekend. Definitely gonna need to measure appear to be plenty of room between cab and cap but worried about the bumper and 5th wheel if I move to position 2 moving head up 3 more inches Click image for larger version

I measured I can move up more but talking fractions of inch of clearance between bumper and trl so I will stay where I am at. I also discovered the hard way that moving up 3 inches made pigtail too short pulled out receptacle on truck and pulled black cover off of wire near where connected on 5th wheel finish patching to get me home tomorrow
