Is there a year F250/350 6.7 to avoid?
I have decided that I want to get a little more truck for pulling the 5er. We are going to need to replace my DW Navigator so I think we will keep mine and replace hers with a newer diesel. I have never and will never by a "new" truck so I will have a broad range of years I can look for. I have been out of the dealer for s few years so I have not seen the issues I used to before hand so I am asking the experts on here. Is there any year or years that need to be avoided for mechanical/ design issues or power/ mpg issues? Any help will be appreciated.

Let me get this right, you are going to trade off what is undeniably the best light truck diesel, for something newer? How many miles and how much rust on the 2000? With an exhaust change,a 5 position programmer, a turbo wheel, and a hand built transmission, you will have as much pulling power as most of the "newer" diesels without all the problems.Yo will also spend only around $8000 instead of $60000.If its rusty, throw on a brand new take off box and 4 new doors for another$4000,and refinish the whole truck for another $4000.

Some of the Job 1 2011 trucks had valve issues. To be safe, I'd look for 2012 up. The 15 and up trucks have a different turbo, that allows for exhaust braking rather than just using the tow/haul shift strategy to slow it down. I'd love the exhaust brake on my 13, but it's not a big enough deal to make me trade the truck.

Nearly 17,000 miles on my 2016 F250 6.7 and already thinking of trading. Never have one more than 2 years.... No longer than when the 2018s come put..... but if the right equipped and color arrives it could be next month....

No I am keeping the current diesel truck and trading in the Navigator. I don't know that I will ever get rid of my 7.3L. I have 180k on it and it is a Florida truck so not a speck of rust and just had some paint issues fixed when someone rearranged my rear bumper and 1/4 panel. If I have to replace her truck, it's either buy another SUV for 35-50k or a new diesel for 35-50k. We have slap wore out a couple SUVs so maybe the truck will stick around a little longer and she really likes driving mine so it's not an issue.

Spot on.
The 7.3L while no power monster will run for at least 400K with good maintenance. Dad is still driving his 1990 with a bunch of miles on it.

I have heard the early 2011's had some issues. Our 2012 F250 with 75,000 miles tows great and have had zero issues. A great truck.
Anything from 2012 forward should be good.

I work on cars and trucks for a living and don't want to come home and do it. That's why I own Fords. Sorry couldn't resist. I am a Ford certified diesel tech on the 7.3L but I left the dealer right before the 6.0 came out, thank god I dodged that bullet. I just have not seen the new diesels since I am not working on them anymore.

I have a 2012 F350. At 50k miles had to have the radiator changed because they developed a leak (known defect)then the bearings on the turbo went bad. Thank God it was still under warranty. No Charge! Runs great and I still love it!

2011 f 250 6.7
We have a 2001 F250 6.7. We have towed our rig almost 55,000 miles with no issues of any type. We are currently on a two month trip and all is well. Like any diesel, if you keep the oil and filters changed, it will run almost forever and you have to listen to all of the noise that comes with the Rams and Chevys.

My 2011 was great for two years. My 2015 is less than a year old and its been flawless as well. But newer is always better in my opinion.
In 2015, they got a little more power. Mine is now 440/850 I believe versus the prior 400/800.
I've had them all: 7.3, 6.0, 6.4, and the 6.7. Going from a 7.3 to a 6.7, you will almost wet your britches the first time you pull the camper. Your trusty old 7.3 will become a sled in your memory rather quickly.

A good rule to live by is never buy something on its first year. So if you want a 6.7 I would say 2012 to now.

2015 and newer since it has the 2nd generation version of the 6.7L engine. I only have 5400 miles on mine and I love it.
This link explains the improvements in the 2nd generation of the 6.7L superdoody engine.
