Is this a proper weight distribution hitch for my setup?

I have a 2007 Jeep Commander 6 cyl, 3.7 L

I have a Trailer 15 ft. Unloaded 2,700 lbs, loaded about 3,500 lbs.

I had a 6000lb weight distribution hitch that was stolen, so wanted to buy something affordable as a replacement. I purchased this on Amazon for $238.19 (free shipping).

Pro Series 49903 Complete Weight Distribution Kit

The box seems really heavy. I could barely lift and put on my old WDH myself (female, 140 lbs).

I haven't unboxed this and so wanted to get some feedback before I opened it (although return shipping would probably be pricey due to the weight).

1. Will this work on my setup? My last WDH was a 6000 lb (I think) and this is a 10,000 lb.
2. I think maybe the heaviness of the box is because of all the extra parts I won't be lifting (receiver, attachments to trailer, sway bar).

Sure! That'll be more than fine. If anything it's probably a little overkill, but there's nothing wrong with bigger n better than is absolutely required. It'll give you a little room to grow if you decide to go bigger.

You could use that on a small toy hauler. The pin rating on that one is 1000#'s so you've got plenty of room to work with.

Just don't over tension the bars; go by measuring bumpers to ground or weighing on a scale to hit the set up properly. You could darn near lift the jeeps back tires off the ground with this one. But, if you are like the rest of us, you will grow into it. When you sell or trade up, keep it.

You can search on line or on this forum for detailed WDH set up. I have seen several excellent one. There are very many different types. I think the Curt is very similar to the one you bought. See if one of these helps.

I paid the first time, too (came with the deal), but the tech didn't know what he was doing and it pulled poorly. I then decided learn and do it myself.

I wouldn't put too much stock in a dealer getting your WDH set up correctly. It really is best to learn to do it yourself. As your TV's payload, trailers cargo, and such will change over time (ie., sometimes you travel with a full fresh water tank.. sometimes not), it's important to be able to fine tune your WDH on the fly.

considering the weight of the loaded trailer and average tongue wt, would suggest dropping the spring bars down to a 750 - 850 (whatever the pro-series offers) to get max benefit from them -- seems the 1000 lb bars will be just a bit Too stiff -- usually, a good rv shop can order the bars as an individual order --
