Is this normal?

When I towed our 7000 lb. 30ft Jayco TT with a Ford Expedition, the same experience was felt. Not all the time, but a lot depended on how fast the Semi driver was going as he passed me. The quicker he passed, more the trailer wanted to be 'sucked' over into his lane. I had 750 lb. weight distribution bars and a dual Reese sway control. I can't imagine the feeling if I didn't. Nothing sways the F-350 towing my fiver now. Night and day difference.

I hope this was "tongue in cheek" humor.

Most tractor trailers run much faster than I am comfortable with. They do this for a living; not fun. If they want to pass I slow down as they come abeam to help them get around me as quickly and as safely as possible; then flash my lights once or twice to let them know it is safe to come back over.

Herk, yes and no on the humor. If on runs the speed limit, one will have very few trucks pass. On occasion there will be one but if running the speed limit he won't "blow" passed. I normally run 65-68 and very very seldom get passed by a big truck unless it's during rush hour on two-lanes and then I will run with traffic. Some people feel more comfortable running 60 on the interstate with people running 15-20 mph faster than them, when some will push the limit a little more because they feel more comfortable when there is only 5-10 mph difference (this would be me). The only problem I have is the people that look down their nose at me for doing what I feel is safe and comfy for me and complain that their truck sways when I pass them.

On our trip this weekend, I was passed by at least 40 big rigs both there and on the way home. The truckers know what they do to TT's when they pass you. I would see them coming in the side view mirror and try to match their speed as they approached me to minimize the effect. You can see them start to shift over to the left as they come up on you because they know they are gonna suck you in. I would try to get over as far as I could to the white line and when they reached me, I would feel them suck me in. Just hold it steady and start to back off the gas pedal a bit and let them pass. Every time one of them got a hold of me, I would say out loud, "let me go" and the DW asked me if I was talking to that truck. lol
Kinda scary but once you realize what is going to happen, you can get ready for it.

We have 1000# equalizer hitch with left and right sway control tow Flagstaff 30 wfkss with 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500 and have not had this issue since we added the left side sway control. Makes life so much better since we live in Williston ND where 7 of every 10 vehicles on the road is a semi truck.

We felt the pull with our TT, and 1/2 ton truck but haven't noticed it with the 5th wheel and the 3/4 truck. My Father feels the drift towards the semi in his 30' Class C.
