Is this realistic?
I'm in the market for a new/newer travel trailer. My max towing capacity for my truck is 950 lbs higher than the dry shipped weight of the trailer we want to purchase. If I expect to travel without tanks full, is this realistic or am I fooling myself? Is ant to think I can do it, but I don't want to be foolish. It has been a long time searching for the TT that suites our needs, and this one has it all, if that's possible.
My TV is a 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 with the new ecodiesel, and as optioned the truck max tow rate is 7660.
Any input is appreciated.

Not safe in my opinion. You have to haul some gear/food/accessories. And you have passenger weight. Lots of numbers to consider but you are pushing it on dry weight alone.

Is the dry shipped weight of the trailer you are looking at from the brochure or actual sticker on the trailer? Most people carry about 1000 lbs of stuff in trailer......

Yeah, I'm worried that it's so close, but it's the perfect set up for what we have been looking for. That's why I'm asking for opinions. I can travel with dry tanks, but cargo is hard to tell without actually weighing it.

I would not. It is amazing how fast things add up. Like said above there are so many factors that will quickly eat that cargo and towing capacity.

Hitch, chairs, propane, hoses, firewood, wife, pets/kids, clothes, and food will add up VERY quick, you should look for another RV.

I sounds this is a non tow truck with that payload. Head to piggy wiggly or Wegmans for groceries maybe

Razzer - The weight police will jump me for this BUT..... go to the Ecodielel forum "Ram 1500 diesel" and you will see many threads with folks towing much more than you want to. A few reasons this is probably OK; the same truck with a Hemi is rated for just under 10,000 ponds so the brakes, springs, frame etc are capable of hauling your trailer; the ED with 3.92 gears is rated to tow about 8,500 pounds so I'm guessing you have 3.55's; the Ecodiesel is de-rated by Ram in part because the diesel intercooler is in front of the radiator and the air conditioner condenser. This cooling configuration is not ideal for pulling heavy loads really fast up steep hills. The ED will actually de-rate itself if coolant temperatures get too high (over 240). So your truck is physically capable of towing that weight safely, but you won't win any races with an Ecoboost Ford. You'll probably get between 13-15mpg while towing, so you'll pass the Fords at the next gas station. (LOL).

I agree, don't let the weight police scare you off. They say I can't tow what I do, but it hasn't stopped me or broken anything in over 80K miles. I don't win drag races, but accomplish the same end result as those guys with the 3/4T, 1T, & 1-1/2T, I get to the campgrounds.

You will know that the unit is back there, but you should be fine...... Go for it.... and add a few gallons of water in the Fresh Water tank too.

Budget for LT Load Range E tires for the truck and a good weight distributing, anti-sway hitch. If a TT is that heavy its probably in the 30-32 foot range or longer and passing semis will make for a white-knuckle ride without those upgrades.

Good fuel economy but really not cool at max towing.
