X3 I am not sure how to cross the chains to create the "cradle" when they are mounted so close together.

+1. I read about crossing them but really never tried it. Will see how tight it gets when I have a chance.

Dave,
I will follow the link on the instructions (did read yesterday).

Thanks.

My are mounted close together and it doesn't seem to make much of a cradle either but I cross them anyway.

Silly question, is the only reason to cross the safety chains just to shorten them up if they are long? The ones on our trailer don't seem long enough to cross so I don't.

The chains are crossed so that they would cradle the tongue should it separate from the ball and kept it from catching on the ground.

The ones in the picture are not crossed. They are supposed to be crossed UNDER the hitch for the purpose of catching the tongue in case the hitch comes loose or the tongue comes off the ball to keep the tongue from hitting the road and to control the direction of the tongue.
