Is this sway and WDH?

Guys,

Looking to get a used 22' ft 2006 Summit RB22 (dry weight 4000lbs).

Owner of the trailer includes this hardware. Is a sway control and WDH? I currently have a brake controller and will be towing 90 miles home. Just sold my smaller trailer (15ft 2500lbs). How long is something like this to install (trying to see if I can install before towing home).

You haven't included any photo of the spring bars (with chains) for weight distribution...do you have them? That's a single friction sway bar you have.

That was what I was thinking too. I will see the trailer this afternoon. Hopefully I can tow it home just on the ball joint alone.

I believe that style of bar will have a short, vertical section that slides up into the hitch head. The other end will have a chain to attach to the flip up latch on the campers' tongue.

You have a friction bar sway control system, and it looks like snap up brackets on the trailer frame, but I'll be darned if I see any kind of hookup on the ball mount.

Wait, that "tube" that goes from the upper to lower part of the ball mount may accept spring bars.

The parts should look like this...

Dave

Edit: Chap, it's hard to see, but it looks like there's a flip up latch mounted on the tongue.

Dave, I reposted after I looked a little closer at the photos. You are exactly right.

So this is just a sway? If I want to integrate the WDH into the current setup , can I do it?

There should be spring bars that go into that hitch from the bottom. I don't see any kind of connection to hold the spring bars in place, though. The spring bars will probably have chains on the other end that hook to the 2 brackets on the frame near the propane tanks.

If the owners have the spring bars, then you should have both weight distributing and sway control.

You may need to adjust the hitch head up or down to get the proper ball height, and may need to tilt the hitch head to get proper weight distributing. Take some big wrenches with you.

It might be tough knowing how much to adjust the tilt, without doing fender measurements. If a "persuader" bar is included with the snap up brackets, it should take some strength to snap up the bracket with the chain connected. That might get you in the ballpark of correct adjustment for the trip home. To tweak the system, you will need to do fender measurement or check your weights at a truck scale.

Don't know the specifics of that WDH, but is is probably good to have at least 5 chain lengths under tension between the snap up bracket and spring bars to allow some "swing" when you turn.

You need the spring bars that go with the set-up.

The owner has it hooked up to a 2001 F150 V6. My TV is a 2012 Tacoma V6 rated for 6400 lbs

It appears to be a Husky brand weight distribution hitch with one sway bar (friction type). The spring bars are missing in the pics as stated. I have the same set up but with two sway bars. Attached is the instruction manual and schematics. Hope this helps.

Personally, I would not want to tow a 4,000 lb. dry weight trailer (which isn't the actual weight of the trailer with all accessories) 90 miles on my ball alone. You need those spring bars to help distribute the weight from the back of your Tacoma to the trailer axles. Hopefully they are there and you just didn't snap a picture of them.

From what I see all you have is a sway bar there. It attaches to the bracket that is bolted to the yoke of the trailer and the attaches to the small ball on the hitch. I have used those on small trailer and they work well, certainly not as good as a double sway and weight distribution hitch. Unless the trailer really causes your vehicle to drop a couple of inches, you should be able to go 90 miles with out any undo problems, just keep your speed reasonable and watch out for big trucks. You may want to invest in something more substanstantel down the road.

I was able to tow it home fine. It is actually a combo of WDH and single sway. I didn't use the sway. The truck didn't sag that much.

I did notice when an 18 wheeler passed me a few times, the truck felt like it floated. I will hook up the sway next time.

TIA,
tntrac

I hooked up the WDH with the help from the seller, but didn't use the sway control. Owner forget how to hook it up and I wasn't sure.

Its a single sway control.

If you go to the link that rickludden posted, the instructions to hook-up the sway is explained. I can't tell in the photo...are the safety chains crossed as they should be? It's an unusual mounting that they're so close together at the tongue end.
