I would get 4:10's. That thing has a wicked 6 speed auto so 4:10's would be great with it.

With the torque curve, I would think 3.55's would be great with the EB. 3.73's would be good too, but I wouldn't think the 4.10's would be necessary.

If the purpose of buying the ecoboost is to get good mileage while not towing, 4.10 gears would be counter-productive.

Darn, I had no idea the F150 had so much going. I like the mid-box idea. I can't seem to find it on the Ford website. That would make 1 long truck, depending on the bed and cab configuration.

Unless someone is using the truck to tow a really heavy trailer, I would think the 3.73 would be an all around good ratio. I notice that the maximum tow ratings do not go up when switching from the 3.73s to the 4.10s. I didn't even know that Ford offered 4.10s in the new F150 until I read this thread.

Currently, I think the 4.10s are only available in the Raptor (and maybe the heavy duty payload package). Rumors are it may be coming to the FX4 model as well.

4.10 s might be OK with the double overdrive 6 speed. But when you are not towing that is a disadvantage. My thoughts are, go with 3.73s; and if it is a struggle, go down a gear. With 6 speeds, there will be modest RPm changes between gears. You should always be able to find the sweet spot.

The midbox is an upfitter item. Ford does not sell it to individuals. Upfitters order the fleet/work trucks (usually XL models) with the midbox prep option which deletes the 8' bed, upfitter installs 5.5' bed and midbox in front of it.I have seen a lot of the highway work companies using them around here.

I think that mid box would be awesome for a genset and other goodies to hide in. looked like on the drivers side there is a sliding rail for it.

you can only get up to 3:73's and they are part of the max tow package and the system then specs the EB as well. The EB is $1000.00 here in Canada. $1700.00 for the 6.2.

here's what i picked out if i was to get one lol.. wish it showed options but basically, the ecoboost, tow package and the midbox option.



ugh i tried to edit it for the max tow package but it selects stuff i dont want... ugh..

Max tow package will be more, the differential will be a 9.75" unit instead of the lighter/smaller 9" units, the bushings/mounts between the diff and frame and leaf springs to frame are larger (similar to the max payload/GVWR upgrade packages) LT tires, stiffer shocks on all 4 corners, slightly heavier springs on the front end. Will come with integrated brake controller and tow mirrors as well, possible rear view camera standard on the new max tows?

Ford.ca doesn't offer the EcoBoost in a cheap truck like you have there.

i used .ca

its a regular cab, 4x2, 8' box, XL (cant warrant the 10k of accessories for the XLT) then pick the max tow package and it automatically puts it to the EB engine. I also picked speed control, mid box prep and rubber floor mats which puts it at 23,610 now

4:10 s and max tow sound nice. I was on the Ford site and did the "build". I did not see an option to do the Max Tow on the FX4. Does anyone know if the Max Tow is limited to certain models?

Looks like they are testing thoroughly as well. This is in regard to the engine used in the 2010 Baja 1000 race EcoBoost truck. If you have ever seen a Baja you know how they run those trucks.

To test its durability, it was put through the equivalent of 10 years – 150,000 miles – of harsh usage on the dynamometer. Then, it was installed in a 2011 F-150 to work as a log skidder in Oregon. If that wasn’t enough, it was used to tow a 11,300 pound trailer at high-speed NASCAR track and then to compete in a steep-grade towing competition, where it took place.

Only then was it installed, without modification, into the F-150 EcoBoost race truck for the grueling run. The truck crossed the finish line of the 1,061 mile desert race in just 38 hours and 20 minutes. Last yea, less than half of the competition, many with modified engines, finished the race.
